Spring on the color horizon: Snake Print Pants Set

Spring is on the horizon; just nineteen days out and my excitement makes me wish for a more colorful closet this season probably because of the brutal winter we have been dealing with in the twin cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) I have put this colorful outfit collage set together based on some pieces that would be trending this spring. First of, is the snake print pants (this print is as stylish as ever this season) and if the pants is not up your alley, you can switch it out for skirts while you check out this previous post here. The lilac sweater is an unexpected pairing with the pants and to add more color, throw in a green color translucent clear bag. Do not forget that trench coats and boots are still very needed and stylish for spring. Happy styling. To see a previous post on how this lilac body suit sweater was styled, check out this Post here.

The Pearl Earrings Trend

Pearls have been statement jewelry for centuries back and are highly regarded as status jewelry. Their value and price has made them special occasion jewelry; to be worn when there is a very special event and then kept in a safe box. This is true of real, genuine pearls; however, faux pearl or fake pearls have also been around for years and while they are not of great value, they are beautiful to look at and can also be as stylish as the real ones. Some pearls are encrusted with real diamonds or other valuable stones like this cultured fresh water pear drop earrings  that retails for about $800 because it has diamond accents in it and this some what similar set  that retails for about $450. Now that pearl earrings are trending, you do not have to splurge on expensive sets. Above are faux pearls that are beautiful and stylish to look at but do not cost a bunch. Click on the product information below to get more information on the sets. Happy viewing, happy shopping.

White turtle neck Sweater + Black Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt is a closet essential and there are very good reasons why every lady should have one or two in her closet. It is a classic piece that can be dressed up or down, formal or casual and it's so versatile when it comes to styling. I realized last summer that my closet was in need of a black midi pencil skirt and I was on the lookout for an affordable piece of great quality. I talked about this skirt in my recent Winter Wish List and if you need one, check it out here.  For this post, I styled my pencil skirt with a white ribbed turtle neck sweater and a pair of ankle boots. This is a simple way to style a pencil skirt for winter in the winter season. My dark brown wool coat made the pairing of a plain black and white outfit more interesting. I added the red fringe statement earring for a pop of color. The weather was a bit bearable when I wore this outfit so I did not have to wear some tights or stockings. A pair of black knee high boots is a good choice too when it is really cold and you need to add more layers to the outfit.

Grey Sweater Dress + Green trench Coat

Happy Monday everyone. I hope to make this post as short as possible. I'm wearing a grey color sweater dress and a vintage green color vintage trench coat that has a removable floral lining for extra warmth. I love how the color of the coat just makes the otherwise grey outfit pop. This sweater dress is an old one from the closet purchased from Victorias' Secret years ago. The neckline can be turned into an off-shoulder style; can be worn as a cowl neck and it can also be worn over the head like a hood. I just love the versatility of this sweater dress. I wear it a lot in the winter months and it is so worn now that I think it is finally time to give it a break. I'll only wear it to lounge at home from now onwards. I paired the grey dress with high heeled ankle boots and a black bag; trying to keep it very simple and neutral underneath the green coat.  Lastly, my green and gold tone statement earrings completed the look. If you are asking what I'm thinking; yes, the coat is a thrifted piece from years ago. I think I paid about $15 or $20 dollars for it and then I had it dry cleaned too. I take care of all my winter coats and store them properly because they are not really just fashion pieces for me but essentials. I have a couple of 100 % wool coats that actually cost up to a $1000 for a new piece but I got each of them for under $100 at the thrift and consignment store like the camel coat I wore here and here.  You need to have good warm coats and trench coats if you live in Minneapolis. Thanks so much for stopping by here.

Spring Pleats

Spring is around the corner; about twenty days away but still closer than ever. There are so many things we can do in the next few weeks preparing for spring but we will focus on fashion here because this is a fashion blog. How about starting with this beautiful pleated skirt collage fashion/mood board? Pleated skirts have become a classic since they burst into the fashion scene a couple of years ago and there is basically a style of pleated skirt for every season. The heavier fabrics; suede, velvet and metallic pleated skirts are a big trend in the fall and winter months while the lighter fabrics and styles like the prints, polka dots and floral pleated skirts are a huge trend for spring and summer. The multicolor graphic pleated skirt is the statement piece in the set below. The colors in the skirt are a juxtaposition of dark and bright colors thereby making the piece appropriate for winter and spring. Check out the beautiful pleated skirt here.

This outfit set above can be referred to as a transition set; a cool way of incorporating two season's styles into an outfit. It is still winter but then spring is around the corner, kind of outfit. I paired the skirt with a black high neck blouse and a pair of sleek black ankle boots. The tan bag complements the colors in the skirt and the earrings add a pop of color. While the above pleated skirt is beautiful, it is very pricey but there are other low prized colorful pleated skirts that can be used to recreate this look. Check out some of the affordable selections below.

New in: Velvet Blazer + Cute Flats

In my last post, I talked about my recent shopping trip to Arc's Value Village and these are the pieces I purchased at the store; this blue velvet blazer and the two pairs of blue color flats. If you are not familiar with Arc's Value village, it's a thrift and consignment shop in my city that sells good quality pre loved fashion, accessories, housewares, furniture and books, DVDs and craft supplies. Since I have shared so much about this store in my previous posts here and here and here, I'll go on ahead and talk about this haul. So, I have wanted a blue velvet blazer for a while now and whenever I'm at the store, I head first to the blazers and outer wear racks and I usually find a great piece or two after sorting through these two racks. By the way, the store is clean and well organized and this makes it easy to find great pieces. I found the above blue velvet blazer within five minutes of being in the store and just in my size! The velvet was listed for $9.99 which was a good deal because it was in a great condition. I also got this two pairs of blue flats from the store and in almost new condition.

Pink Trench Coat + Plaid Pants

I have had this pink trench coat for years now and since it is light weight, I wear it mostly in the spring and fall. However, it does come in handy in the winter time too whenever I need to add a pop of color to my grey and dark colored winter wardrobe. I wore the coat recently with very good layering underneath; a black cowl neck sweater and over sized, high waist plaid pants with pink and grey colors. The pants are really extra long on me and I'm thinking of doing some DIY on the hem. I might cut off an inch or two from the hem and convert it to a belt for the waist of the pants. I'll let you know how it goes. I really plan on doing a lot of DIYs on the blog this year. I believe it is time to start expressing more of my creative side than just consuming everything. Instead of buy, buy, buy...how about I say, make, make, make....hehehe! 😁 I purchased my trench coat which is somewhat like a mackintosh from a thrift/consignment store in my neighborhood called Arc's Value Village years ago. You have heard me talk about the thrift store a lot lately on the blog and this is because I intend to live life in a more eco friendly way going forward. I made a trip to the store recently and would do a post on the items I got in my next upcoming post.
