Wardrobe Basics; "the blazer" (Part One)

The Blazer...

Wardrobe Basics

The blazer is one of the most essential piece of clothing item that can be found in  a lady's closet and the styling possibilities are so diverse. A blazer, with the right accessories can take you from the office to happy hour, to date night or a weekend garden party. This post is one of many styling posts to come on the blog where a clothing item would be restyled for different occasions or events.

A good quality blazer in a great color is a must have but if you are not into colorful clothes, then you can get one in a neutral color. Quality blazers can go as high as $200 a piece but stores like JCrew and Ann Taylor do have good quality blazers on sale every now and then. Below are three ways I would style the blue blazer pictured above.

Work Wear

Chicwish white shirt

Blue jacket

Jimmy Choo suede shoes
$510 -

Hermès hand bag
$6,845 -

Garden Party

Sans Souci white sleeveless top

Blazer jacket

From the pictures above, you can see that the blazer and the pant are the basic pieces of the three outfits; the accessories and the blouse change the outfits and transform the basics from one event and occasion to another. Do you have a basic piece like a good blazer in your closet?

Shoe-lovin' Summer Sandals

Summer is almost here and it's time to shop around for new summer sandals or to bring out the old summer sandals from the closet. The aquazzura wild thing sandal pictured above is trending but it is a great splurge for the summer. However, like I always say here, Fashion or style does not have to break the bank. There are always great quality lower priced items as alternative to the splurge. Below are pictures of the Steve Madden Sassey sandals which are equally very beautiful and trendy. 'Take your

Spring Wardrobe Essentials (Outerwear)

Spring is here and it's time for some closet cleaning and wardrobe chore. If you live in a region where you have the four seasons then, you'll have a lot of winter items to put away. A couple of years ago, all a lady needed for the spring season were some lighter jackets, scarves, cardigans and blazers but these days, the options are quite diverse and if you want to look nice and well put together the entire season, you'll want to get some of these wardrobe essentials listed below

Vests are very versatile and easy to wear as they can be thrown over any outfit for layering. They are not used necessarily as outer wear to keep the cold away rather, they just add interest to a layered look. Vests can be sleeveless denim jackets, sleeveless trench coats or sleeveless down jackets.

A Cardigan or heavy sweater is a very traditional layering piece in the spring season and it could be sleeveless or short sleeve and can retain the body heat effectively. It might not be a popular or trending layering piece but if purchased in a great quality and knit, it can add some interest to a spring wardrobe.

Blazers can be worn all year long but they are also great options for spring when we eventually put the heavier winter jackets away. When building a spring wardrobe, blazers are a "Must." Also, It is great that they  come in different textures and prints like florals, stripes and t

Kimonos are trending this season and the varieties and designs available to the modern lady are endless. A kimono can be thrown over a sweater dress, a pair of denim or even a skirt. It is lightweight most of the time and though it does not help to keep the body warm, it does make layering an outfit very fun. Another great bonus is that it can be tucked into a purse or a small bag until it is needed.

                               Trench coat

Trench coats have always been great as layering pieces and they are so chic and edgy. A trench coat can be sleeveless or with sleeves and though the tan color trench coat is very popular for ladies, any great color and quality trench coat is a win! win!!

                             Denim Jacket

The Denim Jacket is a classic clothing item that has to be in every lady's wardrobe irrespective of the season or time of the year. It is very great for layering over any outfit and it can turn a plain boring casual outfit to chic and edgy in a second. However, the denim jacket is a very casual piece compared to the blazer and trench coat and it should be dressed up or down as such.

Do you have every piece of item in the above categories and which is your favorite or absolute "must have?

Cool Blue and tan trench coat

Spring is here and it is time for trench coats, cardigans and kimonos. Trench coats provide warmth on cool spring days and are also very chic and stylish. I would say a Trench coat is a basic piece of clothing that should be in a lady's wardrobe irrespective of whether she lives in a temperate region or not. I got this from the Nordstrom sale last year and it was sitting pretty in my closet until I bought this blue pumps from Jcrew and I realized that it is a match made in heaven. I wore this outfit a couple of days ago to visit a friend and took these pictures quickly before stepping out of the house.

Trench Coat: Nordstrom / Denim: VictoriasSecret / Pumps: JCrew / Necklace: Ann Taylor

Do you have a favorite piece of clothing or accessory for Spring? Scarfs used to be my best accessory or clothing item for Spring but I have found a new love in trench coats.

White and black Abstract

So, Christmas 2015 has been over for months but the memory is still here. I found these pictures in my archive today of the pictures I took during the holiday season. It was a Christmas party that hubs and I had been invited to and I just didn't want to put on any Christmas themed outfit or colors so, I chose this black and white abstract dress that I purchased from Romwe a couple of months earlier when I decided to give the online store a try after reading so much about it on other blogs.

The dress was exactly as it was pictured on the site however the sizing ran very small despite the fact that I had gone a size up when I made the order. Well, I did not want to return it since I only paid about $20 for it in the Christmas sale. The quality of the fabric is great though. I accessorized with my faux-fur sleeveless vest and a black belt and jewelry and I was good to go. The party was so much fun and there were lots of ladies dressed in the typical sequins, sparkly and red and black colors of the holiday and I was one of the oddly dressed female guests. However, I stood out in a good way and I got so many complements on how beautiful my dress looked. "Lesson learned- just follow your heart when it comes to fashion; you do not have to go with trends all the time."
