What to wear on a snowy day

Happy Tuesday Friends; just a quick post here. We have been having a lot of snowy weather in Minnesota lately and there is still so much of the beautiful stuff laying around. So, last Saturday, I decided to do a quick casual style shoot for the blog; hence the title; "what to wear on a snowy day."

This outfit is for those snowy days when you need to run errands around town; maybe doing grocery shopping or going to the salon. I wore a pair of blue denim, a white tee and a vest and a pair of boots with great soles to avoid slipping and falling on the slippery, icy driveways. Flat shoes with slippery soles are a; "No-No" for me whenever there is lots of snow on the ground. And do not forget the "over the shoulder" bags. You have to have your hands free to tuck in your vest's pockets for extra warmth and to help you walk safely. Trust me, it's not safe to be holding stuff or carrying bags when you are trying to walk safely in the snow. Thanks a lot for reading friends and have a great week.

Velvet blazer and Burgundy Cords

Happy Monday 😁  Just a quick post here of what I wore to Church yesterday and it is very ideal for work too. The pictures do not do it justice but I am wearing a black color velvet blazer over a deep burgundy color corduroy pants. I layered my white long sleeve tee underneath the blazer for a less formal look. If you have velvet blazers deep  down in your closet, it is time to let them out. Have a great week.

Velvet Clutches

While we are still talking about all things velvet this season, velvet clutches are very fun accessories to glam up any outfit for an event. I do not know how long this trend is going to last for but I really do love it. Below are some of my favorite clutches that I found online.

Since this is a Fashion/shopping blog for the savvy fashionista, my advice to any lady that loves to follow fashion trends is that; you have to be selective on what trend you splurge on. Only invest your money in the classy pieces and items that stand the test of time and for all other trends, just pick up a piece from any store that you know that sell durable, quality items at good prices and when the trendy piece finally falls off the bandwagon, you'll not feel so bad about how much you spent to purchase the item. And then, there is the option of re-gifting if you do not want the item anymore. Happy Friday and happy shopping.

Military Inspired Monochrome

Monochrome look is as fun as it can be but it is not for everyone. There is always that tendency for monochrome fashion to veer into "The Uniform" territory but the risk can be worth it when it is done right. This military inspired look is one of such looks but as we all know; "confidence is key" to pulling off any look. So, if you decide to recreate this look and someone stops you on the street and ask you what military platoon you belong to, do not be offended! Hehehe 😂

Every piece in this outfit came into existence at different seasons and years but they all came together in harmony as an outfit a few days ago. I purchased the olive color sweater dress from TJmaxx a long time ago and layered a black long sleeve tee underneath it because the sleeves are short. The shoes were purchased a year after I got the sweater dress and I blogged about it HERE. The long olive green trench coat was gotten at a thrift store in my neighborhood and the coat is really heavy but very chic and comfy. I have said in my previous posts on here that you can get good quality vintage coats and blazers from consignment stores and thrift stores; just make sure you have them dry cleaned afterwards and store them in a safe place where they can retain their shape and quality until they are ready for use.

Now, I know my blog is focused on Winter fashion at the moment but you can recreate this look by swapping the long coat for a blazer or a khaki color trench coat or a cardigan. Olive color, camo and khaki colors are trending this season and Hey! Cardigans are a big deal right now too. This outfit reminds me of a very popular bible verse of the bible and if you do not know the verse, just scroll down a bit to my Bible verse of the day. Thanks so much for stopping by here. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Leopard Prints for Work

Happy Wednesday Friends. Today's look is on how to style leopard prints for work. We all are already used to leopard prints accessories for work; shoes, bags, scarves....Like you can put on a great neutral work outfit and throw on a great pair of animal prints heels and you are good to go. Another way to incorporate leopard prints into our work outfit without overdoing it is through the use of cardigans and blazers. Put on an animal prints cardigan or blazer and keep every other piece simple. You can add a second piece to throw in some color into the outfit like I did with my red color block heeled pumps; very simple and chic outfit for work in my opinion.

How are you guys doing? The new year is unravelling somewhat very slow I think. And so long as everything is going on nice and smooth, I do not mind the slow pace at all. Our new-year message in Church for the new year is; "divine acceleration." Yeah, we all do need miraculous intervention in our lives one time or the other. Some people do not believe in God and I do not want to criticize or judge them but to such people, I'll like to ask; "what would you do on a day or time you are faced with a life or death situation when you know no human intelligence or help can save you?" Are you going to pray to God to save you or you are just going to give up and die with all your beauty and talents? Food for thought...

Plaid Jacket + Sweater Dress

Happy Tuesday Friends 😃 This is just a quick work wear post. Like I said in my previous post; the snow is starting to melt and we are experiencing a  brief warm-up in what our meteorologists call the "January thaw." So, I decided to ditch the boots for this block heeled pumps. As we know, block heels are trending but this pair I have on is a bit old and what I love about it is the wooden heels; I can step on slushy snow and not be scared that my shoe heels would be ruined. So, this pair gets its turn over and over during the winter season and it does add a pop of color to any outfit too.

For the rest of the outfit, I just threw a plaid jacket over a tan color sweater dress and since the weather is still cold and dry, I put on a pair of polka dot stockings. This is a very formal and yet fun outfit. I could have used a belt on the sweater dress too but I decided not to because the dress has an elaborate turtle neck and a belt around the waist though stylish, would have been a bit stuffy and uncomfortable. I shop my closet a lot during the winter season and there will be more winter fashion styling on here. Thanks so much for stopping by here and for your thoughts/comments. I love you for reading 😙

Floral Pleated Skirt

Happy Monday Friends; I hope your week started off right. Mine is going great so far. This is just a quick post on what I wore to church yesterday; a teal color floral pleated midi skirt, a black long sleeve tee and a pair of ankle boots. It's a very simple outfit but very ideal for when the weather starts to warm up. Pleated skirts are still trending and aside from the metallic twist on the trend, another version that is trending is the; floral or prints pleated skirt; quite a mouthful, haha! 😁

If there is one thing I discovered about myself in 2016; it is definitely my love for midi skirts. This floral pleated skirt is quite an old piece though that I never  knew I owned. I was doing my end of year closet editing and found it in my forgotten pile of clothes; "tales of an old shopaholic!" I do not remember what store I purchased the skirt from because I had ripped off the tags but I'm sure it is TJ Maxx or Victoria's secret because I remember those were my favorite stores years ago. I found similar skirts online and you can click on the links below to check them out. Enjoy the rest of the week.

Shades of Purple and Styleboard Feature

Call it what you may; lilac, lavender...they are all shades of the one color; "Purple" which is one of my favorite colors. Today being Friday, I decided to do a throwback post to some of my favorite style boards with shades of purple. Also, one of my sets below was featured in a bloggers post and you can read the post and check out which style board was featured HERE

What are your thoughts on the color purple? Do you have any clothing piece or accessories in any shade of purple? Just like pink, some ladies do have a love and hate relationship with this color. If you need any more inspiration on how to incorporate this color or any other color into your closet or style, you can check out more of my style boards HERE.
