Color Me Teal and Yellow

I have definitely infused a lot of color into my closet and this light teal color skirt I purchased from Loft last fall  is just one of my colorful items. My initial pairing of the skirt was  with a black top or  white blouse but I decided to go all out by pairing it with a yellow top this time around; definitely a large dose of color! The neutral accessories sort of turned things down a bit though  however, it's summer and color is just appreciated at this time of the year. So, color me teal and yellow!!...:)

Black and White - Two

Black and white is always so simple and easy to put together considering that they can be put together in hundreds of ways. I featured some of my black and white looks on the blog last year but decided to do a count down of the ones I'm doing this year. So, this is black and white - two. For black and white - one, check here.

I started my blog to document my style makeover and I think it is going well gradually. I used to be in a lot of dark and greys and did not feel like I looked my best. Now, I'm starting to infuse some color into my closet but it does not hurt to do a black and white look or greys once in a while. Style is somewhat subjective most times and some people are comfortable in black the whole year round. I had a course mate in one of my classes when I was in college who wore black outfits to class the entire semester and I used to be amazed at this. I thought of having a conversation with her about her style but was too busy to do so. You see, fashion can be a conversation starter and we can preach any message with the way we dress. I guess everyone should be happy in their comfort zone but for me, I think color is fun. There is a reason God created us black, white and brown. There is a reason roses are red and white and pink; There is a reason trees are short and tall. Diversity is fun and diversity is beautiful. Above all, God made all things beautiful.

Color and Style Inspiration Board 2

One of my favorite stores to shop is Victoria's secret and I do check their website every now and then to see what is trending or what is on sale. I really love all the looks below because they are so put together. Also, the featured sandals and boots  are on sale and they are on my wish list. I recently purchased the leopard print sandals for $29.99 and it was a good discount because the original price was $98. Things go very fast on the website though and it is better to get an item you really love at the original price or you would only get limited sizes when things go on sale.

It's always great to buy smart and have good bargains. This is one of the qualities of a virtuous woman illustrated in Proverbs 31: 10-31 of the Bible. Verses  21, 22 and 30 are very remarkable.

"She (A Virtuous Woman) is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes herself coverings; her clothing is fine linen and purple...Charm is deceitful, and Beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Leopard Print Sandals..

Top: Deb
Skirt: Loft
Sandals: Colin Stuart via Victoria's Secret

I wore this coral color top over a green velvet A-line skirt today to lounge in the house when I got home from work. Then I slipped on this leopard print sandals I recently purchased from Victoria secret when it was time to step out the door for some chores. I'm thinking of heading to the farmers market nearby to purchase some fruits and vegetables. Water melons are on the top of my list because nothing beats the summer heat like a good slice of cold water melon. Besides, my outfit does give a shout out to the water melon colors...:)

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving all your beautiful comments. We are more than halfway gone in the year but as each day goes by, we should never forget to be thankful to God for keeping us alive. Thanks once again and see you soon on your blog.

I scream for Ice-cream!

The weather was a bit nice today compared to the last few days when it was unbearably hot and steamy. What better way to cool of the summer heat than having an ice-cream cone, wearing breathable and light fabric clothes and curling up on the couch in a fully air-conditioned room?

To lounge in the house, I wore this strapless camel colored tier dress and had on a small knit jacket over my shoulders. When it was time to step out a while later, the knit jacket was replaced with a denim jacket, wedge sandals  and a red bag for a pop of color. Very casual outfit but suitable for the hot steamy weather sans the denim jacket which really becomes handy for any sudden change in weather.

Sunday Attire

Hi everyone. This is what I wore today; a simple floral dress that I custom made a long time ago. I got the fabric at a fabric store and at the time I really loved the zig- zag floral pattern. I took the fabric straight to my seamstress with a drawing of a simple A-line empire dress with covered buttons and short sleeves. I liked it so much that it was one of my favorite dresses to wear to church in the summer time; but that was years ago. I got tired of it and retired it in my closet and forgot about it completely.

Coincidentally, I was surprised to see a similar dress on polyvore  a few weeks back. The sleeveless coastal dress retails for $175. It is very chic and elegant and I had to resist myself from making a purchase...((. A week later, I was reorganizing my closet and came across my old custom made dress. I tried it on and was surprised that it still fits after three kids! I made it over ten years ago when I was still single and just held unto it all these years because of the sentimental value. I think it is time to give it away now. It felt very snug when I put it on today and my growing belly made it look like a tight fit dress instead of the A-line shape that it is.

I accessorized the dress with my green suede Jessica Simpson shoes and a neutral bag and green stone earrings and I felt like I was ten years younger...:)

Do you see the similarity between my dress and the dress that I styled for the Polyvore collage below? The flowers in the fabric are very similar and the style of the dress looks the same too sans the belt and the box pleat. Check out the blog post here.

Hot, hot, Sunny Day

                                                                                            Hi everyone,

I'm glad that the weather is going to be a little more bearable from now on according to the meteorologists. It seems this weekend is going to be the "last heat wave" weekend for the summer. I was home for the most part of today and spent some time catching up on my favorite wedding shows on TLC. It was quite interesting a couple of weeks back when a bride of Nigerian descent from Canada featured her wedding on "Four Weddings." Although she did not win but she did showcase the African culture beautifully. I just love weddings and hope to attend a couple more before the year runs out..

On a hot sunny day like today, bright, light, colored clothes are the best for the steamy weather. My neon sleeveless top was therefore a good choice to run errands in. Sunglasses are also a "must have." I did not have mine on for this shoot and the sun really hurt my eyes. "Sunglasses everyone!" And we all know that the ones with good UV protection are the best regardless of what brands they are..:)

I need a "Glam Squad" to Photoshop my arms please..:)

Keeping cool...

This Summer heat wave that is going on around the country, caused me to make some changes to my wardrobe recently and the changes included getting some extra clothing pieces that really scream summer or should I say "heat wave!"...:) This pink sheer top and black shorts are some of the pieces I got. I never really liked putting on shorts (at least not outside the confines of my home) but after the dangerous heat that I experienced last summer despite excessive air conditioning, I decided to do something about it this year.

This pink sheer high-low blouse was gotten from a neighborhood departmental store called Deb. They had a summer clearance sale a couple of months ago and I was glad that I got to know about it on time. I stocked up on a couple of light fabric blouses and got shorts in different colors. This black pair with fold-ups at the knee are from H & M. Thankfully, the shorts were just the right length for me; not too short and stopped right at the knees. The pink blouse has a V-cut at the back but I decided to wear a racer back tank top underneath. I still want to be modest even though I want to keep cool...:)

I broke out some sweat in the few minutes I stayed outdoors taking these pics...

Aside from the heat another reason I have for stocking up on light and breezy pieces this summer is because I want to feel as comfortable as I can as my mid-section expands...:) Yeah, we are having a new addition to our ever growing family and our little angel is due this winter. So, do not be surprised to see pics of my growing mid-section on the blog; and of course! baby bumps are trending...:)

Thanks for reading and please stay cool by drinking lots and lots of water and staying indoors where there is air conditioning. Wearing light breezy clothes is a must! and occasional splash in the pool does not hurt a thing!! Be safe in all you do and God bless.
