Shopping my Closet for Winter Staples: Sweater Dress + Riding Boots

                   

              ᘺhen you live in a cold and snowy state like I do, you'll agree with me that the long dreary winter can get to you sometimes; like, hey! I'm tired of wearing pants and coats! In Minnesota here, we are still in the deep of winter with lots of snow and when I get tired of wearing my big coats, I reach for a thick sweater dress and knee high boots like I did here. I have had this dark charcoal sweater dress for years and it comes into heavy rotation in the winter time. The Colin Stuart knee boots are old too; purchased  over eight years ago from the Victoria's Secret Catalog. The elastic belt is from J Crew and the bag is a thrifted piece from a thrift and consignment store in my neighborhood. I like how the bag mimics the current pouch trend and since my bag costs less than $20, it's a win, win. Shopping my Closet for holiday style

               ᒧ'm going to make this post very short because I have so much to do; some last minute shopping, gift wrapping and menu planning. We always have a Christmas party in my home every year because my little one was born on Christmas day six years ago and the double celebration; my son's birthday and remembrance and commemoration/celebration of Jesus Christ's birth, just makes this season so much special for us. If you lived in my city, I would invite you to the party, haha! 😁

Shopping for sustainable fashion: Velvet Pantsuit

          Fashion is taking a new meaning in 2020 at least here in my neck of the woods. It is definitely going to be more sustainable and thrifty than ever before on here. If you have read this blog for years, you would know that I have always loved thrifting mainly because of the unique pieces and style you can achieve with a curated thrift wardrobe. My holiday style this year is a big reflection of this and here I am sharing this vintage looking pantsuit.

How to Style: Camel Coat and Leopard print Slingbacks

Now that Spring is here, it is time to ditch the boots for sandals, open toed shoes and slingbacks. If you need inspiration on how to slowly incorporate these style of shoes into your wardrobe, this outfit inspiration is for you. In the look above, the leopard print slingbacks is the statement piece in the set because it complements the camel coat nicely and still stands on its own. Now if you do not know exactly what slingbacks are, this is a lesson for you. "A slingback is a style of shoes that is closed in front and open at the back and usually with a strap at the back of the shoes. When the back strap is missing, the shoe is referred to as a mule and in some instances as a slide.To make this look wearable for spring, make sure the coat is long but not too long to cover your shoes and you can wear stockings too if you choose but ensure that you wear a pair that is close to your skin tone. So summer is officially here although it is still cloudy and rainy in my city. This has not stopped me though from donning my summer essential pieces and accessories. Also, it has not stopped me from day dreaming about cool vacation spots and get aways. Then, I can also play dress up and wear vacation themed outfit on a regular day. This outfit here is one of such. The floral blouse paired with denim pants or shorts is the style you are sure to see in most vacation locations. I paired the outfit with summer essential accessories sans the sun glasses; straw hat, straw bag and a pair of bow mules. This is an outfit that you can wear on a regular summer day just to lighten your mood. You can wear it to just about any location you can wear casual style to like picnics and beach parties; even shopping just be prepared to give people a response when they ask you when you are going on vacation 😆

How to style Monochrome; Lilac + Purple

Happy Monday everyone; I hope your weekend was great. Mine was awesome. I spent a lot of time with family and we went to the mall, went out to eat, went to a birthday party and most importantly, went to church. This is the outfit I wore to church yesterday; lilac and purple outfit. Lilac or lavender as some would call it is a color that is trending this season as we know and the easiest way to style it is to pair it with white, cream  or other pastels. For this look I decided to do monochrome styling by pairing my lilac lace top with lilac color pants. I chose to complete the look with a deep purple color blazer, light purple pumps and a straw bag. You can tell by now that I love the straw bag trend. They add a very organic feel to any outfit. So, what is the key to styling a monochrome look? Mix textures.

Keeping it simple and bright: Pink pant suit + white Pumps

Hi Friends, we are going to keep this post short and simple because we are still talking about Pastels and it needs no more introduction plus the outfit itself is simple. I must say pink is my favorite pastel and it is no wonder that I have had this pink blazer for years. It is actually a thrifted piece and cost me less than $10 at the time I got it. I paired the pink blazer with  pink denim pants similar to this pair from Jcrew here. I get really excited when I am able to put together a complete outfit by playing mix-and-match in my closet and I have lots of pantsuits that I have paired together like that. Sometimes, the two colors are a little off and not a perfect match but it is still okay. Monochrome styling does not always have to be perfect. I completed the look with white pumps and a straw bag just because white pumps are the new neutrals and straw bags are just here to stay.
