It's a Skirt; No, it's a pair of pants; No, it's denim on denim.

Hi Friends; I feel so excited sharing this post because I am so happy and relaxed. I had a very entertaining time with my kids this evening and this whole blog post was a family collaboration. I got back from work today and wanted to take the kids  to the park but was a little tired so I decided to just spend some time with them outdoors. When I was looking for something casual and comfy to wear, I thought "why not do a denim on denim look?"
I reached for this old skirt of mine which I really think is the statement piece in the whole outfit. My girls; five and three helped me to choose the accessories. My older girl picked the necklace while the younger girl picked the shoes (fashionistas in the bud) but they kept staring curiously at my outfit the whole time. "Mum, is this a skort or a skirt?" "Are you wearing Pants or skirt?" I was not so surprised that they were deceived by this skirt and I led them on by keeping the skirt tucked in between my legs and walking awkwardly around the house. You can see from the pictures below that I really did a good job deceiving them and even my seven year old son who is my new photographer (I have retired my tripod) kept asking me? "Mom, are you wearing two kinds of pants?" "What kind of skirt is this?"

I got tired of deceiving them and just burst out laughing and they saw that I was really wearing a skirt...:-). The skirt kind of looked like culottes in the pics above when I tucked them in between my legs but it's actually a very cool denim midi skirt. My other denim shirt that I wore here was a little too dark for the look I was going for so, I used this chambray shirt instead. So, is this the season denim on denim trend? Or, is this just chambray on denim? Chambray, denim, what's the difference? We didn't care so much but we had some fun outdoors with the kids scribbling on the porch and running around and me just excited that they had all provided their valuable input to this blog post.

The denim Skirt: styling an old trend

The eighties are back! woot...woot...👏 👏  not in a mad rush though; slowly but surely, pieces are creeping in. One of such piece from the eighties that is trending again right now is the denim skirt. It is a unique piece that I have loved for years and the patched skirt I am wearing in this post is one of my favorites and I have had it for years previously blogged about here. I love the patch work design which is a nod to Fall's patch-work style trend. I love that denim skirt though a casual piece, can be dressed up a bit with the right accessories to get a formal look. The tip is to get a darker shade of the denim; the darker the shade, the more formal the look of the denim. A dressed up denim can be worn to somewhat formal events like fund raising events, casual work meetings or to work on a casual Friday. You can check out the sets below for styling inspiration on the formal and very casual styling of the denim skirt. Thanks so much for viewing.

How to style a cargo denim skirt for Fall

The cargo fashion trend; clothing items made from durable fabric with multiple pockets and wide belt loops; is still going strong as ever. This style which is a resurgence of the Y2K or year2000s fashion trend exudes a vibe of effortless casual chic which I really love. I dabbled into the trend by getting this cargo denim skirt and a pair of khaki pants which I will style in a different post.

For this fall look, I paired the skirt with a black cropped cardigan and a biker jacket which is my hubs gifted me recently. The jacket is really heavy but it's also very warm and comfy. We know that this skirt already has lots of pockets and paired with a biker jacket, there are even more pockets in the outfit so I decided to tone the look down with a mini bag that I purchased from Aldo Shoes (currently sold out). A pair of Steve Madden booties completed the look. so, my style tip is this; style a mini bag with a cargo piece for an effortless look. Thanks so much for reading.

Style-New

My dressy tank-top

This post is about one of my latest buys; a lime color knit top I talked about in a previous post. I have always wanted a dressy top I could wear to events like family picnics and barbecues in the Summer time and when I saw this pretty tank top with fun ruffles on Metrostyle's website, I knew right away it was the top I wanted. It was on clearance too and even with shipping and handling, it still came under twenty dollars.

Now my top is here and the next thing is styling it. I created two collages on my deck of two ways I can wear the top and here are some pictures.

Here, I paired the top with a black A-line skirt skirt and a cute little stone studded clutch. My intention is to wear some really cute black high heeled shoes with it and I knew it had to be something a little glossy. So, I laid out some of my black patent heels on the collage. Since, it was a tough choice deciding what shoe is the most appropriate, I left the collage just the way it is. The day I am ready to wear my top, I'll make the shoe decision.

The collage below looks a lot like the one above except for the fact that I switched the black A-line skirt for a denim skirt which I designed myself. I got the denim fabric at the fabric store, sketched the design of the skirt which is a straight skirt with ruffled hem and gave it to my seamstress who made the skirt. You can see how I wore the skirt in a previous post here. I do not know how to sew that much and my sewing machine which I bought over three years ago is still sitting in my storage room in its packaging never opened. However, I do look forward to learning how so, I can make lots of cool stuff for myself and my kids.

Anyway, back to my outfit collage. I accessorized the denim skirt with a silver clutch and some fun silver heels. Again, I do not know which is the best shoes to wear and since they are all the same color, or almost the same shade, I will make my decision at the last minute when it is time to dress up.

My cute lime color knit tank top can also be worn off the shoulders and I think that is really cool..

Although my top came in a nice condition, I am a little bit disappointed at the color because if you look at this same picture of the dress above that was featured on the site, it has more neon tones to it. Or maybe it is the way lightning was utilized during the shoot. Another concern I have is that I also have several outfits in my closet in this same color and though it is one of my best colors, it is starting to give me a cause for concern. Below are some of the pictures I have of previous posts...

I took this pic on a rainy morning on my deck. To see more pictures of this post, check here..

This picture was also taken the same day as the above pic was taken. It was rainy and windy. To see more pics, check out here..

I am going to put a stop to buying any more lime color or chatreuse outfits from now on because I still have a couple of them I have not shown yet on my blog. Thanks for reading my blog and do leave comments if you like..Do you have several outfits of the same color in your closet?

The Denim Jacket: A Closet Essential

So, fall is upon us, no kidding. It's starting to feel like fall in my city and the trees are starting to lose their leaves and change colors. I have started to pull out my outerwear one by one from my closet and the first grab was this denim jacket. I know this is a closet piece that every one should own; men and children too. It is so versatile and can be thrown over any outfit; dresses, shorts, pants and skirts and it is also a perfect layering piece for early fall or any time there is a significant drop in the weather. I also take a denim jacket with me whenever I travel by air or by road and if you don't own one yet, I say you should. There are lots of affordable styles in the stores or if you need a good vintage and affordable denim jacket, you can stop by your local thrift store and stop by the outer wear aisle; plus the cost of dry cleaning, you can get a great denim jacket for about $15.

The Patch-work trend: White top + denim Skirt

Happy flashback Friday. Today's post is a big flashback to these old pics from my Blog folder and this  eighties look; patch work denim. I took these pictures some time last summer on a cool summer day. It was a very simple look like my looks always are; white sleeveless top, patch-work denim skirt with fringe bottom, pink fringe earrings for a pop of color and a black pair of mules. It was a very casual look but I wore it to Church for a Wednesday Mid-week service. The eighties fashion is coming up in blazers, pant suits, shoulder pads, graphic tees, denim skirts and even leopard prints. It is time to start digging into our closets for those old pieces. Are you excited for the come back of leopard prints or the shoulder pads? I'm having second thoughts about those. Thanks for visiting.

Summer Essentials: Denim Skirt + button-down Shirt

Denim is an essential in my closet any season and denim skirt is even more so especially in the summertime. This season, the button-down shirt has a "bread and butter" relationship with denim with great styling options; you either tuck it in all the way, do the half tuck or the hem ties.

The number one skirt i am wearing right now

Texture, texture, texture...that is what fall fashion is all about; talk about knits and leather, cashmere and faux fur and then denim. However, when we talk about denim this season, we are not talking about the pants. Denim this season is all about the denim skirt and I am not mad about it! 😂

Denim top and floral Skirt

Did someone say bohemian? Yeah, that is what I thought when I put this outfit together. I was in a rush to go to my friend's house for a meet-up and I was not in the mood for wearing denim pants plus the weather has started to warm up and I figured it was time to get out the skirts.

Sweater Vest and Denim Skirt

Vests have been trending for a while now and I couldn't wait to style this thrifted vest I have had in my closet for a while. I love the high neck and the bold contrasting colors on this piece. I paired it with an equally old, distressed denim skirt I have had for a very long time. I completed the look with a pair of red square toe sandals and a white clutch, a very simple look. What say you about the vest trend? The eighties style is back!

The weather seems to be going the way majority want it to go these days but not forgetting the snow storm we had a couple of days ago. The temperature is steadily climbing and this means the layers of clothing are going to start coming off and color is going to start sipping into most closets. I really love this simple sweater and denim skirt combination and it gets me really excited for Spring.

Leather Blazer + Maxi Denim Skirt

Ԋi  everyone 😃 We are finally in the last month of the year 2020 and it's with Faith that I say that I pray that all our headaches and heartaches end with the year 2020. I pray that the upcoming year 2021 usher in a new beginning for us all. Well, it's December 1st! I took these pictures on a windy beautiful fall afternoon when the weather was a little cold but not cold enough for a heavy jacket. This brown printed leather blazer is one of my favorite thrifted blazers and believe me when I tell you that I purchased it for less than $20 and it is in great condition and 100% leather too.

I know that this would not sound great to the animal activists out there and I sincerely apologize...I believe in sustainable fashion and saving the environment and was not exactly looking for 100% leather when I found this blazer. A printed leather jacket like this one  costs hundred of dollars at the stores. I paired the blazer with a vintage maxi denim  skirt and white button down shirt and completed the look with brown square toe boots. Believe me again when I tell you that this is a perfect fall outfit. Thanks so much for reading.

Denim, Sequin and Happy Thanksgiving...

Happy thanksgiving everyone. It's thanksgiving Friday or black Friday as it is popularly called and I am home just relaxing and taking a break from anything related to work. It was a fun day yesterday at my home; a lot of singing and dancing and eating. It was indeed a day to count all those wonderful blessings God bestowed on us all. Like it or not, everyone sure has something to be thankful for. The pictures in this post were taken last weekend  and I just decided to share it in my style/fashion diary; my blog!...:)

It's a very simple semi casual and semi dressy look and since sequins are somewhat trendy now, I incorporated it into my style with the silver sequin xhiliration shoulder bag. The denim skirt was designed by me. I had always wanted a dressy denim skirt and when I could not find what I wanted at the department stores, I hit the fabric store and with denim fabric in one hand and a sketch on the other hand, I went to see my tailor and this is the final product here.

I like the flared hem of the skirt. You can see a previous post on it here

We finally have our "Minne-snow-ta" weather back. It snowed yesterday and since the temperature dropped a lot, we still have up to three inches of wet snow on the ground and it is really really cold. (Like I said earlier, these are pictures from last week.) It seems like I'll really have to say goodbye now officially to my summer outfits and just embrace all the jackets and boots and sweater dresses in order to keep warm. My goal is to keep on incorporating color into every outfit all through the winter season.

The thanksgiving continues everyday and I will keep on counting my blessings with great gratitude to God for his wonderful works. Thanks for reading everyone. **Kisses**
