Cobalt Plaid

Hi Friends; happy Wednesday. This is just a quick post on this pretty cobalt blue color plaid skirt I purchased and wore over the summer; tucked my black onesie black shirt into it and completed my look with this pretty Asos pompom sandals blogged about HERE. The plaid print is very popular in the Fall and Winter season but mostly in the styles of plaid scarfs and coats. With a plaid skirt like this one, you would definitely diversify the way you wear plaid. This skirt can be dressed up for work with a great chunky sweater and a pair of nice booties. I purchased this at Target but it is currently sold out. I have put links to similar skirts below. Thanks so much for reading.

Red Pant Suit and Sequins and Time waits for no One..

Hi Friends, yeah, it's March 1st and time absolutely waits for no one! It sounds cliche whenever this quote is made but then...So that first picture above of me running (and pulling my wide leg pants up) was added to this blog post on purpose though I was not aware of the time it was snapped. Whenever my hubby takes my blog pictures, it's snap! snap!! snap!!! No wasting of time because he got to hurry to go to church but when my son takes my pictures, I become a film/photography director, teacher and editor all at once...:-). And thinking about both situations make me smile. Whether it's a fast photography shoot or an extremely slow one, I have to love both of them and there is no choice about that.

This sort of reflects life in general, sometimes things are slow and sometimes things are fast. Sometimes things are great and sometimes they are not but life continues to move on around us. That is why I hold unto the only thing that remains constant; my faith. It's what keeps me strong when I am weak and gives me joy when I am sad. In life, it is our love for God that matters more than anything else because everything else is just vanity.

So, flared pants are trending and I decided to wear my flared/wide leg pants today and this outfit is actually "separates." The blazer is from Loft and the Body by Victoria wide leg pants is an old purchase from Victoriassecret. I actually enjoy creating my pant suits this way and you have to look really close to notice that the shades of red are slightly different. Check out how I styled a similar pantsuit here.

I decided to tone down my accessories by using dark brown or neutral colors. This sequin bag was thrifted a couple of months ago and I blogged about it here. My brown pointed toe Isaac Mizrahi pumps completed the look.

Blazer: Loft
Pants: Victorias Secret
Shoes: Isaac Mizrahi
Purse: thrifted blogged about here.

Well, I got to go now and I will chat more in my next blog post. I was supposed to post a sports look on the blog and I would talk more about what happened with that look on my next blog post. For now, I got to go; "time waits for no one."

GIVEAWAY UPDATE

Hi Friends, I hope you guys are not tired of seeing this image by now...:-). Well, I wanted to give an update on the fragrance tray and mist giveaway. The comments on the post fell short and we didn't get the twelfth day of Christmas winner (12th comment) or the surprise gift winner (25th comment). So, I'm going to go ahead and do one random selection from the published entries and I'll put up the winner on the 25th of December; Christmas day just in case some people forgot the date...:-). There will be no surprise gift winner anymore since the comments fell short. I will reserve the gift for the next giveaway.

Thanks so much everyone for entering. I'm grateful for your "readership" and your support. I'll make sure to host other giveaways in future that will include multiple winners at a time so that I can be able to express my thanks to a wider audience. Blogging is fun and it is even more fun with comments and other forms of interaction that go on. It's a busy time this holiday but I'm on vacation and I'll take time out to visit as much blogs as I can this holiday season.

New Gadgets..

Hi Friends, just one more day before the Thanksgiving holiday **Woot! Woot!!** I rushed to the store after work today and  got everything on my grocery list and I'm all set to start prepping for the big thanksgiving dinner. I'll tell you a secret though; I'm not such a great cook; yeah, I let it out...that is one of my weak points...:-). However, when it comes to holidays, I become a pro. I think holidays bring out the hidden chef in me...:-)

This outfit is what I wore on Saturday to a friend's birthday party for her son. It was a kiddies birthday and I took my kids along to celebrate with their friend. Somehow, I just wanted to dress up and have an excuse to wear my new Altuzarra for Target booties. You see, I have been spoiling myself lately with all kinds of gifts and I must say I'm a bit saturated now unless Santa wants to deliver more gifts to me...:-). I purchased this knit midi skirt from Victorias secret about three years ago and I really love it. I wish they had it in different colors, I would have got them all. My earrings were gifted to me by my aunt last summer and I love the way it matches with the hardware on my bag and booties. Also, the floral socks were gifted to me by hubs for my birthday two years ago and they are still very durable. They are from Express and I know Express does have great accessories if you want to check them out. So, almost every piece I'm wearing is old except for my booties; what then are the new gadgets that I got; the title of my post?

                                                                  Skirt: Victorias secret
                                                                  White tee: Hanes
                                                                   Scarf and booties: Target
                                                                   Socks: Express
                                                                   Bag: Jacqueline Ferrar
                                                                   Jacket: Wilson's Leather (old)

I got new gadgets for the blog!...:-) a translation gadget at the top right hand corner of the blog and the Bible reader gadget at the bottom of the page. Check them out.  So, you see, I have gifted myself quite a bit recently (with Altuzarra boots and booties and gadgets..:-)). Now, it's  time to gift (to give) others and I'm thinking of another GIVEAWAY on the blog too. What gifts have you received or spoiled yourself with lately? Thanksgiving is around the corner friends and so is Christmas and New Year. The season of giving is upon us.

Grey and black

I'm in bed recovering from a cold and I totally lost my voice; I can't even hear myself speak and I sound really funny but I'm glad this is not a video blog or a YouTube post. It would have been a total disaster. I promised myself I was going to share this outfit that I wore to prayer meeting a few days ago and here it is. I shopped my closet for this look and except for the single strap sandals which was purchased this past summer, I've had the other pieces in my closet for years now. I really patted myself on the back for this look because I used to run to the store to get new outfits whenever I get invitation for an event especially a big event like this prayer meeting that I attended.

It was an Interdenominational prayer conference for women only and it was a beautiful event. I almost did not make it though, I felt sick the whole day with stomach upset, then I dragged my feet when it was time to get ready. At the time I started driving there, I found out that the main road leading to the venue was blocked due to construction and I had to take a bunch of confusing detours. I felt bad that I was late for the event but at the end of the day, I was glad and relieved that I made it. It was worth it and such a beautiful and spirit filled event; ladies getting together to pray for their family, their kids, jobs, friendships, community and the nation. My confidence and faith level went up 100 degrees after the event and I felt like I could take on anything including this awful cold.

                                                                       Jacket: thrifted (old)
                                                                       Pants: Target (old)
Sheer blouse: T. J. Maxx (old)
                                                                       Purse: Vintage Relic
                                                                       Sandals: VS (here)

I'm so glad I feel better now and I'm glad I was able to upload this post. watch out for my GIVEAWAY post and thanks so much for reading and for making blogging so much fun. It's your visits and comments on this site that makes it worth my while and I really do appreciate it. All of God's blessings for the rest of the week and see you again soon.

My Closet Update

Pointed toe Pumps

Hi everyone; so, I'm still enjoying my mini vacation; spending time with my lovely family and making sure the kids are settled in nicely for the new school year. My Labor day holiday was quiet; I spent the day indoors watching movies with the family then dashed out of the house in the evening to get last minute supplies for the kids but I did not leave myself out...:-). I took advantage of all the savings and discounts I could find online and in-store and stocked up on my favorite things; shoes.
I would say that I gave my closet a "Shoe Makeover." Or let's just say I got bitten by the pointed toe shoes bug.

Prior to now, I only owned mostly round toe or almond toe pumps and never really cared for pointed toe shoes that much; except for a few pairs I purchased either because they were on sale and too good to pass or I liked the color or design so much that I could not resist. Also, I feel like my feet are wide and my toes so huge that pointed toe pumps were somewhat uncomfortable. Well, that was my feeling years and months back. Fast forward to today and I have gradually replaced every round toe shoe in my closet with a pointed toe pair.

There has been a lot of hype about pointed toe shoes or court shoes (as some people call them) of recent and all those platform shoes that were trending a few seasons ago are now backstage or deep down in the closet. I have read blogs where there were ongoing debates about pointed toe shoes versus platform shoes. Some ladies are of the opinion that pointed toe shoes are classy and chic and should be the only shoes that trendy or classy women should wear. In my opinion, "it is the woman that makes the shoe classic and chic. When you are confident in whatever you wear; whether it is pointed toe shoes or round toe shoes, you will be classy and chic." Platform or pointed toe shoes are trends that come and go and as we all know, fashion trends keep recycling over the years. You might be thinking; "why did I bother updating my shoe closet then?"

And my answer is this; "I love having fun with fashion." And that is the premise behind this little blog of mine; to document every trend I'm willing to experiment with. So, I just had to do a shoe closet makeover and as for my toes and feet being too wide, well, they just have to adjust for now..:-). However, I'll still wear my round toe pumps whenever I want because no one is going to sue me if I do...:-).

Well, in order to find a happy medium and make everyone happy, hubby included, I did not purchase any expensive item or make any major splurge and it's been a gradual process for months. 80% of my shoes are from Victorias secret anyway and their shoes are pretty affordable with a couple of louboutins thrown in here and there. I also bought some pairs on sale at Charlotte Russe recently after I discovered  that they sell quality items too. There are other pointed toe shoes I have owned for years that are not shown here but I would certainly be wearing them all now.

Now, I really like this calf prints pair here from VS and I loved the splurge here that was on my Summer List and this pair here but I couldn't bring myself to splurge. You know, it's all about finding a happy medium and making everyone happy.
I trust everyone is happy and well?

It's a Skirt; No, it's a pair of pants; No, it's denim on denim.

Hi Friends; I feel so excited sharing this post because I am so happy and relaxed. I had a very entertaining time with my kids this evening and this whole blog post was a family collaboration. I got back from work today and wanted to take the kids  to the park but was a little tired so I decided to just spend some time with them outdoors. When I was looking for something casual and comfy to wear, I thought "why not do a denim on denim look?"
I reached for this old skirt of mine which I really think is the statement piece in the whole outfit. My girls; five and three helped me to choose the accessories. My older girl picked the necklace while the younger girl picked the shoes (fashionistas in the bud) but they kept staring curiously at my outfit the whole time. "Mum, is this a skort or a skirt?" "Are you wearing Pants or skirt?" I was not so surprised that they were deceived by this skirt and I led them on by keeping the skirt tucked in between my legs and walking awkwardly around the house. You can see from the pictures below that I really did a good job deceiving them and even my seven year old son who is my new photographer (I have retired my tripod) kept asking me? "Mom, are you wearing two kinds of pants?" "What kind of skirt is this?"

I got tired of deceiving them and just burst out laughing and they saw that I was really wearing a skirt...:-). The skirt kind of looked like culottes in the pics above when I tucked them in between my legs but it's actually a very cool denim midi skirt. My other denim shirt that I wore here was a little too dark for the look I was going for so, I used this chambray shirt instead. So, is this the season denim on denim trend? Or, is this just chambray on denim? Chambray, denim, what's the difference? We didn't care so much but we had some fun outdoors with the kids scribbling on the porch and running around and me just excited that they had all provided their valuable input to this blog post.

The Blue Tribal..

Hi Friends, I hope the new week and the month of August is going great so far. My mini break from blogging is over and I'm back….:-). It's all about custom made these days. I wore this blue tribal dress yesterday and I have had this dress for so long that I was surprised that I didn't showcase it on the blog before now. I made it years ago when the high-low dress was really on trend. I bought the fabric from a fabric store on line and got the appliqués from one of the local stores, drew a sketch and my seamstress brought it to life. The good thing about custom made clothes is that they are original and unique. I decided to go without jewelry because I thought the dress had enough bling on it already with the stone appliqués.

The last time I wore this same dress before I wore it yesterday, was in January on the day of my baby dedication; just days after my baby boy was born. I chose the dress because I wanted to wear something blue and it was the first item that jumped on my mind when I got in my closet. I remember I had done a collage on a high-low dress on Polyvore and I blogged about it here showing how I would style this dress. This charcoal canvas pointed toe shoe is a recent addition and I wore the coral color here.

Dress: Custom made
Purse: T.J Maxx
Shoes: Victoriassecret

The picture below is one of the pics that was taken on the day of the baby dedication in church and that is my friend Naya holding my newborn son Zion. Naya is one stylish and beautiful lady and I loved her dress too. It was also custom made and she had on this cute teal jacket and a pair of fabulous sparkly heels. I hope I'll be able to showcase Naya on the blog again sometime.

It's amazing how time flies. It's hard to believe that it's almost eight months that I had my baby. The only evidence is that I'm still chubby but I'm not in a hurry to get on the treadmill just yet because I'm still nursing. Okay, let me not bore you with all the baby gist…:-). Does anyone like custom made clothes like I do? It's good to channel your inner creativity sometimes.

'Wishing you all a great week. Take charge of the week and remember that "with God, all things are possible."
