7 Years Blog Anniversay and my tip for re-styling an old strapless dress

So, it is my seven years blog anniversary; I started this blog in March 2012 as a therapeutic hobby and I have enjoyed the journey every bit of the way. Owning a fashion blog has helped me grow so much in my personal and social life and believe me when I tell you that it takes a lot of discipline to run a blog of any sort; whether you own one for business or financial reasons or for pleasure. When you are consistent with your blog posts, you start to see your blog as a "friend" or "a part of your family," so to speak. As a fashion blogger, you keep an eye out for trends, you plan outfits for the blog,  take pictures, do photo editing and blog designs and layouts and then lots and lots of writing  and editing. Blogging is basically supposed to be a full time job of its own and if you do not love it or have a passion for it, you cannot do it for long. I am happy I started this blog; I am happy for the therapy it brought me over the years and the patience and discipline it has taught me and I am thankful for all the amazing blogger friends I've made along the way. This blog is still a hobby and I do not run it for profit or financial reasons and I'm grateful for the independence and freedom I get for running it on my own terms.

Shoe Lovin': Stiletto Knee high Boots:

Another shoe lovin' post here featuring this beautiful knee high stiletto heel boots. This Balmain designer boots have since sold out online but since this shoe lovin' post or feature on the blog is dedicated to highlighting shoes that are unique or trending, (check out this previous shoe lovin' post here) it still needs to be blogged about irrespective of the fact that they actually retailed for over a $1000 dollars. The "mule style" design of this boots is really eye catching and the boots are so elegant that they look like sculptural pieces.  The gold toned tipped stiletto heels also add to the wow factor of these heels. Since this pair is definitely a splurge and this blog is dedicated to only affordable fashion, consider this an inspirational post if you are the creative type, maybe this post would inspire you to take pen to paper to create some unique shoe designs of your own? (I am definitely inspired) Check out the ankle boot version of the boots here. And you can check out other low budget stiletto knee high boots in the links below.

What I'm loving this Spring

As each new season come around, there is always one or two pieces to pick up fashion wise and I am sharing some items I would love to add to my closet this season. I know I promised myself at the beginning of the year that I would shop less and style pieces that are already in my closet and I must say this decision has been hard to keep especially when I see all the countless sales and discounts or when a beautiful piece suddenly pops up on my radar. I admit I still need to buy some trendy pieces every now and then to review and write about on the blog as a Fashion Blogger or Fashion Writer and with that I'll tell you while the seven items above are on my spring wish list.

Mustard Color Dress:

I saw this mustard color slit sleeves recently on the Boohoo Website for only $24 and it is an offer I really do not want to pass up; hopefully, the dress would not sell out quickly. I have very few mustard color pieces in my closet and this dress would be great for the summer. If you want to check it out, it is available in about eleven colors.

Floral Midi Skirt:

This bold color floral midi skirt from Target is very elegant and stylish. "Bold florals" is always a huge trend in the spring and summer months and the summery yellow color of this piece definitely makes it unique. The styling of this skirt is also very versatile because it can be paired with whites, blacks, stripes or even yellows to create an eye catching look.

Styling Neon for Spring: Lime color Coat + Plaid Pants

Happy First day of spring everyone 😁 To celebrate the new season, I wore my light weight lime color coat that I have had in the closet for years, paired with a black color long sleeve tee and plaid pants previously styled here on the blog.  Plaid print pieces are not just for fall season anymore; you can pretty much wear them the whole year depending on the fabric and the style of the plaid piece. For this look, I tried to keep everything simple knowing that the lime color coat would be the statement piece in the outfit because of the color. Lime color and neon colors are very big trends this season and you are going to see them every where; tops, bottoms, accessories...

Styling inspiration: Plaid Skirt + Black top

Winter might be over but there is nothing wrong with still styling a few plaid pieces here and there and that is why I put together this plaid ruffle skirt collage for some inspiration. The skirt is beautiful and classy and the "almost" cropped black color top makes for a great pairing. To add some color to the look, I accessorized with blue stud earrings and a tan bag. Happy viewing, happy styling.

DIY Belt Bag

Belt bags are here to stay it seems. This trend burst into the scene in the spring of 2017 and I never thought it was going to be around this long judging from the love-hate relationship I had with it at the beginning; check out the blog post I did here. This spring, the belt bag trend is still very strong and if you like the trend; now, is the time to invest in a good piece. You know, my tip for indulging in any trend is to tread lightly; never adopt or splurge on a trend if you are not sure how long it will be around for. This is the reason, I decided to DIY my belt bag in this post here. And this post is just a summary of how I turned my mini quilt bag into a belt bag or waist bag. I hope you enjoy the simple instructions below.

Green Satin blouse + Plaid Skirt styling

The satin trend has been on for a while now mostly in the form of the slip satin dress and the slip skirt; while I like the satin fabric for some items like bedding and lingerie, I never really liked it as fashion piece to be worn outside the home. Also, I felt the satin slip style was just not modest enough irrespective of how it is styled; forgive me while I express my opinion...haha! 😏 You can bet I had second thoughts when I saw this green satin blazer online which again has an opening at the back but nothing a camisole cannot fix. Why can't we just have a modest satin piece for those who are really interested in the trend? To be honest, I don't mind a satin slip dress as an evening wear with good under garments because you know the fabric is very delicate and clingy and I would style it with a blazer or faux fur stole. Some satin wedding dresses are designed like slips too. So, for the sake of this post, I'm talking about the satin trend in reference to every day fashion. Anyway, rather than buy this piece here, I would take a look at the green blazer instead.

Closet Chronicles: Lilac/Lavender color

Closet Chronicles is a new feature on the blog that is all about adding colors to a plain closet and the color I'm starting off with in this series is (pastel) lavender or lilac. This is a lighter shade of purple and if you have been reading this blog for a while you will know that purple, lilac and lavender are some of my favorite colors. Unlike nudes and neutrals, this is not the color you wear on a daily or regular basics. Lilac is a color you add to the closet to style on an unexpected spring day or event; depending on the occasion. It can also be worn in the summer and all the way to Fall.

This post is about ways to add color (lilac/lavender to your closet and we'll start out by looking at a plain closet and when I say plain, I mean closets without colors; just nude and neutrals. Some people think this is boring but others just like their wardrobe or closet this way and that is okay. I f you do not like color, then you do not like color. However, spring is around the corner and this is a perfect time to access your closet  and determine what you need to refresh it. I know the trending color of the season is neon but we will address that color in a different post. So, like I was saying, we start out by just staring at this plain closet and we can make a list of that is needed in a closet; pants, tops, skirts, blazers, coats and accessories like shoes, bags, scarfs and jewelry. And we can go out to purchase affordable pieces in this color. Below are beautiful and stylish lilac color fashion pieces that you can add to your closet.

Blazers

Blazers are a cute way to add colors in your wardrobe because a colorful blazer is a statement piece. When you throw a lilac or lavender color blazer over your nudes and neutrals for spring, you'll definitely feel confident and classy for any event. To make the blazer stand out more, you can keep other accessories like shoes and bags neutral. A translucent or clear bag and shoes is a great idea too. Check out some lilac color blazers here and here.

Shoes

Can you see how yummy these lavender/lilac shoes look? A pair of lilac shoes would look stylish when paired with a dress, a pant suit or even a skirt and top. Easter celebration is around the corner and aside from Easter, think Spring and Summer weddings or even prom and keep a  pair at hand. Check out some selections here.

"Fashion Find" is a new feature or post on the blog that highlights any fashion piece that is outstanding or makes a statement just like this tiered maxi skirt above. All shoe posts will continue to be highlighted in the "Shoe Loving" posts like this one here and here and here and here; So back to this beautiful piece from Chicwish. It is a gorgeous skirt, hand made from layers of soft lace and tulle. It looks very delicate and stunning and would look great for any special occasion like wedding, bridal shower, birthday celebrations and special holidays like Easter and Christmas. The only con in wearing this piece is that you have to ensure you are not upstaging the celebrant/host of the event or special occasion you have been invited to and the style is not totally new, It has been around for a while now. The skirt comes in four colors; grey, pink, cream and lilac and you can check them  out here.

Floral Sequin blouse + Black midi pencil Skirt

I know it is Tuesday and not the end of the week yet but I really needed to do this throwback post to this sequin floral blouse I wore sometime last month. The weather is all dreary around here and all I have been wearing are sweaters and long coats as you can see from my previous posts on the blog but this post here is just to add a fun look to the blog and really, believe me when I tell you that this outfit was fun to style and wear. It's a look I wore to Church weeks ago and though there was so much snow around in the background, the weather was bearable and I also had on a long black coat which I did not include in the pictures. The floral sequin blouse is a thrifted piece I blogged about here a few weeks ago. I paired it with a black midi pencil skirt, a recent purchase from Target and completed the look with an Asos belt and black suede pumps.
