Work Style: Purple + Lilac

Purple is my favorite color of all time though I don't get to wear it as often as I would like. This is the reason I was super excited when the color started to trend in spring. Purple and lilac is also one of my favorite color blocking combination as seen in this style inspiration post here. For this look, I'm wearing my light purple or lilac color J. Crew NO. 2 Pencil Skirt in cotton twill; such great quality; I don't know if the store still carries this style of pencil skirt anymore. I paired it with a purple color sleeveless top and completed the look with a metallic statement necklace from Burlington. The black sleeveless coat from House of Fraser and black pumps nailed the look as a work style. Click on the shopping links below if you care for more shopping info.

The denim Skirt: styling an old trend

The eighties are back! woot...woot...👏 👏  not in a mad rush though; slowly but surely, pieces are creeping in. One of such piece from the eighties that is trending again right now is the denim skirt. It is a unique piece that I have loved for years and the patched skirt I am wearing in this post is one of my favorites and I have had it for years previously blogged about here. I love the patch work design which is a nod to Fall's patch-work style trend. I love that denim skirt though a casual piece, can be dressed up a bit with the right accessories to get a formal look. The tip is to get a darker shade of the denim; the darker the shade, the more formal the look of the denim. A dressed up denim can be worn to somewhat formal events like fund raising events, casual work meetings or to work on a casual Friday. You can check out the sets below for styling inspiration on the formal and very casual styling of the denim skirt. Thanks so much for viewing.

Create your own Vintage: My white lace sun dress

We all know vintage is any thing or piece that is old but has great value and there are ladies that are exclusively into vintage fashion. They seek out old period/vintage pieces to put together a unique style. If done right, that sense of style stands out any time. Well, I do love vintage pieces too but I'm yet to focus exclusively on creating a vintage style for myself. What I focused on however, was styling this old lace dress for this post. It is a dress I have had for years and it is actually my "weight-checker" or my "weight piece." And by this I mean, I keep some pieces in my closet; pants, dresses and tops that I use to check my weight gain. If they don't fit right, then it is time to hit the gym! Lol...😂 I think this method is just better than obsessing over numbers on the scale. I do use the scale too now and then and then, there is the "waist-measurement method," where you use a tape to measure your waist line...😂 Oh, this is not a fitness post; that would be dealt with at a different time...

Shoe Lovin' - Ann Taylor Blue Satin block heel Sandals

I froze for a second when I saw this cobalt blue satin bow Mules online. It's so beautiful and the combination of the blue with the brown heels is such a beautiful contrast. This is the exact example of what we call "Statement Shoes." And you know mules are trending this season so this is definitely a trendy pair. Ann Taylor is the designer of this beautiful pair and I must say that this is their best shoe design yet and this is because I have browsed the Ann Taylor shoe collections from previous years and this one really stands out. Do you agree? Click on the shopping link below for more info.

Summer color-blocking: Mint + White

I am sharing one of my favorite color block style for the summer; mint and white. I have had this ruffle blouse for years; an old purchase from T. J. Maxx. I love the color of the top but the crinkly fabric, I don't like so much. It creates a puckered shape in front that makes me look like I am bloated so I really don't like the top that much. I'm currently loving this luxury piece here. I like to pair it the top with my white color wide legged pants as I did in this post. It is a simple outfit I wear to very casual events. I admit I needed a third color to amp up the outfit and yellow, purple or magenta would have just been fine. I could not find my yellow drop earrings so I opted for the gold bracelet instead. Any color pairs well with white really and the third color just brings everything home.

Tan Trousers + Floral sandals

So, pastels was a huge trend in the spring and I decided to take the look into summer. In this post, I am wearing a simple outfit; tan trousers and a white sleeveless top accessorized with fringe earrings and straw bag and a pair of floral Steve Madden Sandals. The outfit is almost monochrome but the sandals does add a pop of color. These pictures were actually taken last summer with my iPhone-6 and I'm just blogging them now. My blog picture folder is full of old pictures and since I'm not taking blog pictures currently because I'm on a sort of semi blog break, I would be blogging my old pictures for a while. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Summer Style: Styling Straw Accessories

                                                         FASHION INSPIRATION
                                  ——————————————

Straw accessories; hats, bags and sometimes shoes have become basic summer essentials so much so that high end designers are now rolling out luxury straw bags and accessories like this here and here and here. However, price or label does not matter when styling these accessories. You can get a $10.00 straw hat or straw bag and style them with your basic summer outfits and you would still look like a million bucks. The key is to style them with what I call "happy Outfits;" that is very "summery outfits;" off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, whites, shorts, ruffle dresses and skirts, drop and tiered or chandelier earrings and beach wear. If you need more inspiration, check out these sets.

Crop top and wide legged Pants

Crop top is a piece I hardly ever wear especially when it is off-the-shoulder like the one I am wearing here. My style philosophy is that it is a piece that should be left for the twenty-somethings or college students but if I must wear one, then I try to style it with a bottom that has a high waist to cover my mid-region. My other styling tip is that; if my upper arms and shoulders are exposed as in this off-the-shoulder top, then my lower part has to be covered. It's all about striking a balance at being modest, trendy and stylish at the same time. For this outfit, I paired my printed off-the-shoulder top with a linen white color wide legged pants; added a multi strand choker and completed the look with Steve Madden Velvet Sandals. Thank you so much for stopping by.

The Duster or Kimono: A Closet Staple

The duster or kimono is a piece that should be in every lady's closet because it is so versatile. It can be worn over any outfit; denim, shorts, dresses and even skirts; mini skirts that is. A colorful duster can add a pop of color to any outfit and it can be used as a layering piece too depending on the weight of the fabric or the weather. A duster or kimono can also be used as a beach wear cover and this definitely makes it a great piece to own. I purchased this plaid printed duster from Target a couple of summers ago and paired it with denim, white tee and a pair of mules; "easy breezy" styling.

My Nordstrom Sale Wish List

                                                             SHOPPING GUIDE
                                        ——————————–

                                                                   ——————————

There is so much hype about the Nordstrom sale going on right now because we all love a good sale. Nordstrom is a store that sells high end, great quality fashion and on regular days, prices can be steep and that is why there is so much buzz around this annual sale. I do not plan to do a lot of shopping but I came up with a Wish List that with cute affordable fashion and accessories for Fall and with the holiday season not so far away, it's not too early to start shopping for gifts for loved ones. You would certainly find some items at a discount during this sale. I really like this transparent back pack here and this very cute plaid boots. When it comes to gifts, this clear handbag protector is great as a stocking stuffer. The Sale runs from July 20th to August 5th for non-card members and public. Click on the number links to view my list and happy shopping.
