Ditching the Monday Blues

Say it is Monday!! Can I get a woot! woot!! Oh, is that reserved for Fridays alone? Mondays do not have to be boring. The best way to start a great week aside from getting a spiritual boost by attending Church on Sunday and giving the week to God by Faith, is to start the week slaying! Yeah, you heard me!..Lol. Apart from dressing being a form of good manners according to the famous quote by Tom Ford, dressing up does elevate our moods too and for most women, you get a burst of confidence when you make an effort to look your best.

The outfit sets in this post "is" a dose of inspiration and motivation for a stylish new week. I threw in some shades of cobalt blue in each set to help slay the Monday even more. Ditch the Monday blues by stepping up your style game and stepping into work or school looking your best. Have a great week Fashionistas and wishing you a "Happy thanksgiving week" if you reside in the great United States.

So long Summer..

Happy Friday Friends; do not be surprised by the title of this post. I know it is Fall season but like I said in my other Posts, we have been enjoying gorgeous summer-like weather in my city but it looks like we are jumping right into Winter this weekend. It is raining currently and the serious cold has come in. Also, we are expecting our first snow fall this weekend. Somehow, it feels like we skipped Fall.

Since, it is flashback Friday on social media, I decided to put up a flash back Friday post to this outfit I wore during the summer. The graphic tee was sent to me from instagram.com/wearyourpraise and I love it. Graphic tees are totally up my sleeve for casual wear and the message on this particular tee is so powerful; "Never underestimate the power of a praying Wife." There are other inspirational messages and designs too and you can check some out in this blog post here. There are so many ways to dress up or dress down graphic tees as you can see and you can look chic and edgy in them. Check out more tees, tank tops and sweatshirts on Instagram at @wearyourpraise and on wearyourpraise.com and get a 10% discount when you use the code "BEAUTYOJO"

Blue is Cool

It is Fall though we do not feel the effects yet in my state of Minnesota; maybe this weekend when it is predicted we might have some snow. Fall colors are usually rich tones of brown, mustard, burgundy, camo, emerald....well, I decided to throw in some cobalt blue colors last Sunday which really can be a Fall color too. Have you been seeing those beautiful cobalt blue velvet shoes and boots in the store?

My cobalt blue blazer paired over a graphic print pencil skirt was my church outfit last Sunday. I threw in my nude pumps to tone down the blue colors and with the beautiful blue skies  above me, I had a beautiful awesome day. I hope you are enjoying beautiful weather wherever you are...:-)

Fashion Office

Hi Fashionistas, it's a different kind of post on the blog  today and the topic of discussion is; "the fashion Office;" do you have one?  Does your home office have a theme? does it look like a creative space? does it reflect its function? Since this is a Fashion blog, the emphasis is going to be on the Fashion Office. If you are a fashion blogger, a designer, a fashion editor or just someone who works in the Fashion industry either as a hobby or as aa career, you need to have an office with a Fashion theme to keep the creative juices flowing.

If do not have a room dedicated as an office in your home, you can have a creative corner for a start and the key is to use that space consistently as an inspiration for creativity. To create a fashion theme in your office, you need to have props and objects that inspire you and related to your kind of creativity.  Below is a list (not exhaustive) of things you can have in your office aside from the regular beautiful furniture and a computer or laptop.

  • Beautiful throw pillows and blankets
  • Beautiful flower vases (natural or silk)
  • Picture frames of pictures, dresses or scenes that inspire you
  • A mannequin or Dress form
  • A full length Mirror
  • A clothes rack
  • A shoes rack

Do you have a Fashion Office that has a theme and reflects your creativity and personality? What are your thoughts on having a themed Office?

Shoe lovin' - Velvet Pumps

The velvet trend is very huge right now however, if you follow fashion trends, you'll know that it is recycled; the velvet trend was around sometime in the nineties. The only difference I see right now is that the trend is very heavy in footwear; pumps, sandals, flats and boots. The important thing to remember at all times is that; trends come and go and there is no need spending money on them when they won't last. The savvy Fashionista should only invest in classic pieces and fashion that that is timeless.

This blog tries to showcase trends (at least to an extent) with links on where you can shop for them on a budget and the Find for today is the Velvet pumps. I found this beautiful pair of velvet flats on the DSW website and it is from a lower end designer I am familiar with; "Penny loves Kenny." This pair is totally sold out online but you can still purchase the high heeled version from the link below and it comes in other beautiful colors like cobalt blue.
Happy Shopping...

Fall Work Dresses

Happy Monday...:-) It's all about dresses for work  this Fall season on Work wear Monday today on the blog. We all know knit dresses and sweater dresses are very popular in the Fall and Winter seasons and this post is all about highlighting some ways we can make this season's dresses stylish and chic for work.

Fun Accessories

Add some fun to a demure knit dress by throwing in very fun accessories in beautiful and stylish prints like leopard print pumps, a statement bag or a cozy chic neck scarf. And since it is cold season, make the tights fun too and a statement coat would not hurt.

Color Blocking

Color blocking is another way of making the season's dress stand out. Swap a solid color knit dress for a color block one like this "Phase Eight Abbey belted dress" in the set below and you'll look polished and chic and ready for work. You can also alternate by wearing a solid plain color dress and accessorizing with a cool statement color block bag like the one pictured here and here and

 Add Color

Color should not be forgotten at this time of the year; it should be incorporated into Fall Fashion in every way. Transform that summer dress into fall by layering it with a sweater or a turtle neck top and use belts and brooches to tie in the look. A warm and cozy coat should be the icing on the cake for the whole look and if you work in an environment that is friendly to Fall fashion, you can swap out the pumps for a pair of over the knee boots.

Eshakti Midi dress

Happy Friday Friends; it's the weekend; woot! woot!! 'time to start the preparation for the upcoming holidays and some fabulous holiday shopping (if you have not started already). Have you picked an outfit for yourself yet? If you haven't, it's not too late to shop and I have the perfect store information for you; Eshakti!

I got this beautiful green color dress from Eshakti and it is the perfect holiday dress. I love the style, the fabric, quality and the color. The amazing thing too is that this dress comes in several other yummy colors; like cobalt, egg plant and navy. It also comes with a customization feature at the time of purchase because that is what Eshakti does; it is an online store that specializes in customized fashion and also has sizes ranging from 0-36W.  With this dress, I had the option of changing the neckline to a different style, changing the length of the sleeves, changing the length of the dress and the option of having pockets. It's like having your personal seamstress on line.

Customization is free for the first purchase you order and presently, you get a $30 gift coupon if you are a new customer. There are new designs at the site every week so shopping on the Eshakti site is always fun and exciting. Read more about it HERE.

Floral Circle Skirt

Some floral love on here today; I am sharing a quick look at this floral circle skirt I wore during the summer to a friend's baby shower; very simple and fun skirt in my opinion. I say all the time how amazing it is that floral skirts are so chic these days and they can be edgy too depending on how you style them. Floral skirts for the win! Like I said in my previous post, we are still enjoying gorgeous weather in my state of Minnesota so there is  no fall fashion on here at the moment. Have a beautiful rest of the week Friends.

Moving Forward...

Hi Friends,  It's quite an interesting day today in the United States. The result of the election for the 45th president was quite a shocker. My opinion is that it is time for everyone to move forward and work together as a united Nation irrespective of our differences. I decided to share some pictures of my recent birthday celebration on the blog today to keep my mind off current events.

My very good girl friends planned for us all to get together for a ladies night to celebrate my birthday and it was beautiful. I wore my one shoulder glitter dress that I have had in the closet for years and I blogged about it a couple of years  ago here. I regard it as my special birthday dress because I got it from T. J maxx years ago for my second daughter's first year birthday. I reserved it for only special celebrations since then. I paired it with an almost choker necklace and burgundy strap heels. The dress is certainly a nod to the off shoulder and cold shoulder trend. 'funny how fashion trends keep recycling.

Moving forward, I give God Thanks for my life, my family, my wonderful friends and for this blog and for everyone who stops by here.
