Fashion Spotlight: Cold shoulder Tops

Cold Shoulder tops

Cold Shoulder Tops

The Summer is gradually coming to an end I know but not before we talk about this fashion trend that has been gradually taking over the "off the shoulder trend;" the popular trend of the season. This trend has got something to do with the shoulders too; "the cold shoulder top." I don't think I love this trend as much as the off the shoulder trend but I must say it is quite interesting. It seems a pretty easy design to DIY too so, it might be a good idea to get the look by working on an old blouse or tee lying around in the closet. I wouldn't purchase any piece with this cut-outs so long as there is a pair of scissors lying around in the house...Lol. What are your thoughts on this trend? "Yay or Nay?"

Shoe Lovin' - Splurge Versus Steal

Hi everyone; don't we all just love a good deal especially when it has to do with shopping for shoes? Having in mind that no two shoes are totally alike even when they are from the same designer; it does not hurt to get similar design of a beloved pair of shoes from a reputable designer at a more affordable price and good quality.

This post here is a comparison of this beautiful Summer sandals from two designers; the mustard pair below is from Steve Madden and retailed for about $100 but has since sold out. The color is so great for the summer and fall season and block heels are trending too; definitely a great addition to the shoe closet. The black pair is from Payless Shoes and at about $30, it is definitely a good deal. The payless pair also comes in this beautiful mustard color too and the quality is also great. So, in the words of the Payless commercial; "why pay more when you can pay less?"

How to wear Graphic tee to work

Hello, Friends, it is Monday and on the blog; "Work wear Monday." This post is all about; "how to wear graphic tees to work." We all know graphic tees are usually very casual clothing items that we can throw on a pair of denim anytime and go about running errands. However, a graphic tee with a decent message can also be worn to a casual work environment or to work on a Casual Friday. Some companies do have graphic tees with the business logo or promotional message on them that they hand out to employees and these can be worn to work but care has to be taken not to appear too dowdy or too laid back or casual. You do want your clients to take you seriously.

For Tees featured in this Post, click HERE

Below are some tips in wearing graphic tees to work and looking chic and put together.

  • Pick a well fitted tee in a neutral color
  • Make sure the message is not offensive or controversial for the work place
  • Pick a tee that has great design along with the graphics
  • Put on simple or neutral accessories (shoes, belt)
  • Wear your outfit with confidence.

Outfit on Repeat

This Chicwish skirt is always on repeat every summer and it should be the most repeated outfit on this blog. I don't know why I get drawn to it every summer probably because the print is so bold and it is such a cool statement with the London phone booth print. I have managed to update the look each time I wear it by wearing a trendy top or seasonal top. The last time I wore it in the Spring, I just tucked a cable knit sweater into it and wore knee high boots in this post here. You can also see the other post here.

This time around, I just tucked in this red off the shoulder top into the skirt and since off the shoulder tops are trending this summer, it seemed a perfect match for this statement skirt. One way to enjoy styling your clothes and shopping your closet is to mix old pieces with new pieces; don't you agree?

Has anyone ever posted a look multiple times on the blog? What other way do you suggest I wear this skirt next time? I'm thinking I could wear it as a sleeveless dress and then throw a blazer over it?...Lol What are your thoughts; yay or nay?

Color Block - Fuscia and Green

Hi again, I am going to make this post nice and short with this color block combo that I achieved by mixing old and new pieces from my closet. I have had the pencil skirt for a while now and I decided to throw in a trendy blouse with this off the shoulder top I got from Macys recently. Pencil skirts can never really be out dated though; it is a classy clothing piece that would be around for decades however, it is not really trending this season so mixing the look with a more trendy top made me feel more confident and a little stylish **wink.**

Skirt: Loft (old) / Top: Macys / Sandals: Forever21 / Bag: Jessica Simpson

Do you want to know the bottom piece that is really trending this season? It is the denim; distressed denim, skinny denim, cropped denim and the denim dungarees or whatever denim...lol; just denim! denim!! denim!!!...lol.

Emerald Green blouse.

These pics with a couple of things wrong with them are way, way old...lol. I found them in my photo archives and I know the reason why I never blogged them right away. The pics were taken on a windy day last Summer and the wind almost yanked me away like a balloon in my blown up blouse. My darling photographer who must have been one of my kids never even bothered to tell me to tuck in properly. Then, there is that face I make when I am trying so hard to strike a pose...lol.

Anyway, I am no model; nothing is perfect and any excuse is fine so long as we keep on trying..lol. I am going to keep putting up the pictures here good or bad until I get better at striking a pose or whatever..lol.

Congratulations to everyone of us that is still in the Blogosphere after so many years especially the Mommy bloggers. Passion is indeed everything. A big thank-you to everyone who stops by my space to show some love and express positive vibes. I just did a blog design make-over after I recovered from a mini blogger's vacation, recession or Writers' block...whatever you want to call it...lol. Now, I am ready to keep the posts rolling again but I would start by blogging more less than perfect pictures from my archive one day at a time.

Style Icon: Victoria Beckham

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you would have known by now that my admiration for Victoria Beckham is real because she is the only celebrity apart from Michelle Obama that I have blogged about multiple times. Her sense of style is out of this world as she wears and own every look effortlessly. I never get tired of scrolling through her pictures online. As Fall get's closer, I am definitely stalking her pics/videos for some Fall fashion inspiration.

Victoria Beckham (VB, as some refer to her) is popular for her signature pose, oversized glasses, structured coats and solid color hue. However, whenever she steps out in florals or stripes, she looks just as impeccable. Below are some of my outfit inspiration for Fall.

Fashionista aside, VB is also an inspiration in the way she handles herself in the public eye, her family life and her strong business empire. If any lady can be in the spot lights for so long and still manage to look this great while keeping every other thing around her together, she deserves an applause. **insert clapping hands emoji here.

Back to School and Work Outfit Ideas

It's back to school again and back to work for all educators/teachers. It's always a cool idea to show up on the first day of school or work looking comfortable, clean, and put together. Once you get the fashion out of the way, you'll be ready to conquer the task/work that is ahead of you. If you need a little bit of inspiration to start off on the first day, below are some outfit ideas/inspiration.

                                                       School Style

Do you want to go to school looking a little bit dressed up and yet casual on the first day? Then you'll need a good blazer which can be denim, khaki or velvet. Just throw in a tee, slim fit denim and a great pair of comfy shoes and you are good to go. You can dress down by wearing a pair of sneakers or converse or dress up by wearing a cute pair of flats or comfortable heels.

A sure way to achieve a casual look is to wear denim (a no brainer) along with a pair of flats, sandals or sneakers. The denim on denim look is totally not out of style but you can wear
the latest twist on it by wearing a denim dress and a pair of sneakers.

The best way to show up for work in an office setting or corporate office is to make a statement with your outfit. The kind of statement you make depends on the dress code present at your place of work. If it is flexible, you can show up in a dramatic skirt as this MSMG wrap wool blend skirt pictured below. You can also make a statement by wearing a pair of pants or skirt in a solid color or hue that is totally unexpected but chic and trendy or maybe a pair of statement shoes (you know there are lots to choose from, shoe lovers...:-). Another option is to wear a statement piece of jewelry like a necklace, earring or a brooch/pin; just have fun.

Do you work in a casual setting? Below is an outfit inspiration for showing up chic and trendy. Put on a pair of denim with a great fit in a dark hue and throw in a statement piece in the form of a handbag or clutch. A nice pair of flats or comfortable heels should complete the look.

You would agree with me that is important to dress for success all the time irrespective of whether you work in a casual or formal environment. What are your thoughts on making an extra fashion statement when you go back to school or the office after some time off?

Fall 2016 Trends - Part One

Fall is around the corner and the trends for the season have started showing up in the runways of fashion shows and fashion week. Some of the trends that would be seen this Fall include the saddle bag (pictured Above) with sleek, beautiful lines. Last fall, the bag for the season was the bucket bag but I know the bucket bag would likely take a back seat this Fall.

Lace has always been a popular fabric for summer but this Fall, we are going to see loads of it in layered Fall fashion and a bold color lace top peeking through in a trench coat or jacket would add an interesting detail to layered look.

Don't we just love the good old striped tee that is ever present in any season of the year? Yes, we do! The striped tee would make a great comeback for Fall and it would make a nice combination for that cute sneaker.

The caged sandals or booties is another interesting shoe design that has been featured a lot in the runways lately so it is definite that we'll see lots of it in the Fall season. Tassels, pom-poms and fringe are some adornments that would come with the caged sandal too.

The pointed toe flats in great colors, neutral hues and sleek designs would grace lots of feet in the Fall season too and they would help with the transition to those chic Winter boots. Most designers and major stores are already out with their chic flats and the suede pointed toe flats would be a cool trend too.

The Cropped denim is already here this summer but more of it would be seen in Fall along with the denim culottes. 'Just throw a great chunky sweater over it and you are good to go. The combination of a striped tee, cropped denim, caged sandals and a saddle bag is one to watch out for. If you are not interested in any of these trends, it would be fun to sit down in a mall and just "people watch" to see how the trend plays out.

Casual in blue

Its been a while since I posted a casual look on here; I had second thoughts about these pics though. It was a Saturday morning and I had just had a big breakfast and had bags packed in the car for a family road trip. I realized later when I was looking at the pics in my phone that my overfilled stomach was bulging under my tee...lol. Next time, I would suck my stomach in as much as I can or I'll just avoid taking pictures after a big meal altogether.

I had fun on the trip and it was a road trip to remember. I did mention in my one of my previous posts that I made a short trip to Africa too after nearly ten years since my last visit. It's been an eventful summer for me. I hope you have been enjoying the summer too. A walk in the park with family and friends can also be as fun and rewarding as can be. Would you also post very casual looks on your blog? What are your thoughts...
