Sunday Attire

Hi everyone. This is what I wore today; a simple floral dress that I custom made a long time ago. I got the fabric at a fabric store and at the time I really loved the zig- zag floral pattern. I took the fabric straight to my seamstress with a drawing of a simple A-line empire dress with covered buttons and short sleeves. I liked it so much that it was one of my favorite dresses to wear to church in the summer time; but that was years ago. I got tired of it and retired it in my closet and forgot about it completely.

Coincidentally, I was surprised to see a similar dress on polyvore  a few weeks back. The sleeveless coastal dress retails for $175. It is very chic and elegant and I had to resist myself from making a purchase...((. A week later, I was reorganizing my closet and came across my old custom made dress. I tried it on and was surprised that it still fits after three kids! I made it over ten years ago when I was still single and just held unto it all these years because of the sentimental value. I think it is time to give it away now. It felt very snug when I put it on today and my growing belly made it look like a tight fit dress instead of the A-line shape that it is.

I accessorized the dress with my green suede Jessica Simpson shoes and a neutral bag and green stone earrings and I felt like I was ten years younger...:)

Do you see the similarity between my dress and the dress that I styled for the Polyvore collage below? The flowers in the fabric are very similar and the style of the dress looks the same too sans the belt and the box pleat. Check out the blog post here.

Hot, hot, Sunny Day

                                                                                            Hi everyone,

I'm glad that the weather is going to be a little more bearable from now on according to the meteorologists. It seems this weekend is going to be the "last heat wave" weekend for the summer. I was home for the most part of today and spent some time catching up on my favorite wedding shows on TLC. It was quite interesting a couple of weeks back when a bride of Nigerian descent from Canada featured her wedding on "Four Weddings." Although she did not win but she did showcase the African culture beautifully. I just love weddings and hope to attend a couple more before the year runs out..

On a hot sunny day like today, bright, light, colored clothes are the best for the steamy weather. My neon sleeveless top was therefore a good choice to run errands in. Sunglasses are also a "must have." I did not have mine on for this shoot and the sun really hurt my eyes. "Sunglasses everyone!" And we all know that the ones with good UV protection are the best regardless of what brands they are..:)

I need a "Glam Squad" to Photoshop my arms please..:)

Thanks so much for reading and have a wonderful and blessed weekend.

Keeping cool...

This Summer heat wave that is going on around the country, caused me to make some changes to my wardrobe recently and the changes included getting some extra clothing pieces that really scream summer or should I say "heat wave!"...:) This pink sheer top and black shorts are some of the pieces I got. I never really liked putting on shorts (at least not outside the confines of my home) but after the dangerous heat that I experienced last summer despite excessive air conditioning, I decided to do something about it this year.

This pink sheer high-low blouse was gotten from a neighborhood departmental store called Deb. They had a summer clearance sale a couple of months ago and I was glad that I got to know about it on time. I stocked up on a couple of light fabric blouses and got shorts in different colors. This black pair with fold-ups at the knee are from H & M. Thankfully, the shorts were just the right length for me; not too short and stopped right at the knees. The pink blouse has a V-cut at the back but I decided to wear a racer back tank top underneath. I still want to be modest even though I want to keep cool...:)

I broke out some sweat in the few minutes I stayed outdoors taking these pics...

Aside from the heat another reason I have for stocking up on light and breezy pieces this summer is because I want to feel as comfortable as I can as my mid-section expands...:) Yeah, we are having a new addition to our ever growing family and our little angel is due this winter. So, do not be surprised to see pics of my growing mid-section on the blog; and of course! baby bumps are trending...:)

Thanks for reading and please stay cool by drinking lots and lots of water and staying indoors where there is air conditioning. Wearing light breezy clothes is a must! and occasional splash in the pool does not hurt a thing!! Be safe in all you do and God bless.

Weekend Casual

Hi Wonderful Peeps of Blogs Ville; I'm signing in to do some little chit chat and to say hi to my friends and readers...:)

It's been very hot over here in the twin cities and the easiest way to keep cool in the summer as we all know is by being casual as possible in our attire especially when it is not a work outfit and you are just lounging at home and entertaining. This is exactly what I did this weekend. I attended a couple of friends' weddings and then just spent the rest of my time entertaining and lounging at home. This casual outfit should be the most casual I ever featured on this blog; a short chambray dress with pockets and a pair of white sandals. This white sandals are quite old and was actually the first pair of bridal shoes I purchased when I was getting ready for my wedding years ago. I spotted another pair of cool sparkly silver wedges later and that ended up being the winner and this pair has been at the back of my closet all these years. When white shoes came on the scene again this season, they made a quick switch from the back of the closet and found their way on my feet!...:)

I just want to take a moment to comment on some issues that are going on in our beloved Nation right now and without being too specific, I urge everyone to please take things easy and remain calm and to know that our faith is what keeps us strong at this trying times. We must remain strong and should not let circumstances doubt our love and faith in God irrespective of what side we are on.

As a Christian woman, wife and mother of three who dresses modestly, I was not comfortable with the short length of my dress and I had to put on a pair of plaid shorts underneath. I still felt cool, comfortable and stylish at the same time and I had no worries about the sudden rise of the winds or any wardrobe malfunction or accident...:)

Dress: H & M
Shoes: DSW
Bracelet: Target

My wonderful hubby stopped by to say hi too and we constantly pray for our Nation and will continue to do so knowing that only God has the answers to all life problems. Stay blessed and thanks for stopping by.

Freedom is sweet..

Happy 4th of July/independence to all my fellow Americans. Indeed freedom is sweet and very valuable. I did not have the time to put up this post yesterday even though I didn't do much. I spent part of the day taking a short nap and doing some reflection on how wonderful it feels to be free!

My family went to the lake with some friends from Church and it was a great outing. The evening 's finale was the fireworks display in my neighborhood. It was so beautiful and spectacular as always and I actually prayed that it should end so I could get back to sleep. I think the fireworks ended at about midnight.

White Shirt: Coldwatercreek
Jeans and necklace: Deb stores
Red blazer: thrifted
Shoes: Colin Stuart via Victoriassecret

My choice of patriotic outfit for this year was a simple bright red color blazer over a white shirt and a pair of blue jean pants and cobalt blue shoes. My outfit last year was a white dress with blue and red accessories and I must say it is exhilarating putting together outfits that connotes the celebration of freedom.
This year                                                                                                                            Last year
However it is great to know that the greatest freedom ever given to man is the gift of life over sin and all infirmities embodied in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

John 8:36
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

Trends...

I haven't updated my blog in a while and decided to sign in to do a quick post on some of the trends I noticed for this summer. There are so many of them including cropped tops and denim overalls from the eighties but I only picked those trends which I like and which fits my personality as I do not do every trend that shows up on the scene. The ones I would consider for the summer include;

  1. Yellow dresses
  2. Floral dresses
  3. White Shoes
  4. Denim shirt
It is not unusual or a sin for Christians to pay attention to trends or the clothes that they put on their body because God does care about how we look. He wants us to always look clean and fresh everyday just as we sanctify and consecrate ourselves to him daily. God instructed his people through Moses in Exodus 19:10-11
"And the lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow and let them wash their clothes and be ready against the third day; for the third day, the lord will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai."

Check out the Polyvore Creations below and see how I styled these items...:) Have a blessed and fruitful week.
