Embrace All in denim

Happy Friday; summer is here and how best to enjoy the hot weather than in a shirt dress. I have had this denim shirt dress for a while now and I usually wear it on days when I need to go on errands but do not feel like wearing denim pants. Dress shirts should be in every lady's closet and it is great that they are on trend this summer. I paired it with my very first pair of white shoes. I got this sandals over ten years ago from DSW when I was getting ready for my wedding then I found out last minute that they were not too comfortable and I went shopping in a frenzy and found another great pair; a glitter-wedge-high heeled sandals which ended up being the perfect choice for the day. Funny enough, I seldom wear both shoes but I think I would wear both of them out this summer...:-). I threw on a floral wooden bracelet to give a nod to the floral trend and my Ann Taylor mini bucket bag finished off the look.

My heart goes out to the victims of the church massacre at South Carolina and I pray that their families and friends get divine comfort to bear their loss. Why can't we all just embrace each other? It grieves my heart to hear that some people still have so much hate and anger in their hearts in this diverse and advanced world that we live in today.

On a different note, I posted pictures of me in shorts on my instagram a couple of weeks ago and a lady who has a fitness/cosmetics business in-boxed me samples of stretch marks and cellulite cream. I thanked her graciously but let her know that I was not interested in her products. Really!! Seriously??? what is wrong with a lady having a stretch mark or a dimple or pimple here and there? We do not have to be perfect and no one is. It is good to look good outwardly but I think our inner worth or mindset is more important. There is too much attention put on the outward appearance these days. I know this might sound cliche coming from me, but it is true.

Well, I decided to embrace all my dimples and stretch marks like I always do in this shirt dress and if you notice them in these pics, just pretend that they are not there...hehehe...:-).

When it's really Summer

When it is summer; hot, sunny and humid, there is no need to spend minutes peering into the closet thinking of what to wear; a floral piece with a light breezy top is the way to go. This is why I stocked up on this light breezy utility blouse last year. I think I got them in four or five colors and the great thing about this blouse is that they can go from office to play and they can layer nicely in the winter time. I could not resist this Chicwish floral skirt when I first saw it online and I must say it is one of my best purchase in recent times.

How is everyone doing? I hope we are all set to enjoy the summer? It is all about the mindset and keeping faith. I believe that I am going to have a great summer and I trust God enough to know that it will happen the way I want it to.

Say What???

You know I love graphic tees if you have been following this blog for a while; and since fashion is a form of expression, why not take it further by saying what you mean on your clothes? To appeal to me, graphic tees have to say something positive. The hilarious ones are okay too but my favorites are the inspirational tees. What do you think about wearing a cool tee with the words "Bless me"on it the whole day? Well, I recently purchased these beautiful tees pictured and while none of them say "Bless me," they say something beautiful and much more. I look forward to showing these tees on the blog soon and I have styled each one already as you can see below.

If you are interested in these tees, you've got to hit instagram and check out "The_book_boutique." You'll absolutely love what you see. The tees  are of high quality fabric and the designs are so neat and beautiful; you can get them in short sleeves and long sleeves and Brenda, the designer also designs very cute kids' tees with very lovely inspirational message from the bible. I have been drooling over my tees since I got them and can't wait to pair them with a fabulous summer piece.

Color Block Blazers

                             Michael Kors                                                                            Givenchy

Blazers, jackets and coats have always been a favorite style of clothing for me and I am so excited                                                                            whenever I talk about them. It is great to know that this style of clothing is a classic and it's a trend that will never go away. Blazers date back to the history of fashion and though it started as a men's wear; it quickly evolved into women's fashion too. Blazers over any outfit can make it go from casual to glam in a minute and they can go from the office to a dinner date with just the change of accessories.

There are some recent variations of the blazer that caught my attention and it is the color-blocking style. This style has been around for a while and a lot of designers have got them in their collection however, the recent trend of the tuxedo dress has brought this unique design out on the runways. They can be worn alone in a form of the tuxedo dress or they can be paired with some other classic item like a pair of trousers or shorts.

You can get them off the runway for hundreds of dollars or at the vintage stores for a buck. Another trick to achieving this style is by re-purposing old blazers. You can take an old blazer to a seamstress and have the collars altered with a different colored fabric or with some patches sewn on them and viola! your old blazer will look new again for this classic trend. Or, if you have a blazer that you really love and want to turn into a tuxedo color-block dress, you can also have the seamstress add on a complementary color fabric and when it is neatly done, you'll own your own style and piece and you might just have someone ask you "who are you wearing?" Such a question can be a great conversation starter to let someone know that they are special and that God loves them dearly.
