Sweater Weather

We are having an awesome sweater weather here in Minneapolis but we are not quite sure how long it's going to last for. The forecasts predict that the big chill is going to start this weekend but you never know with this weather. For now, we are enjoying what we have. The northern parts of Minnesota have already had their first snow fall and we might have ours this night or friday afternoon. However, I am not daunted by the looming snow fall forecast as I'm still enjoying every bit of this great fall weather which does not yet require heavy jackets or boots.

It was just the perfect day to wear my cream over sized sweater and this orange pants which has been in heavy rotation in my closet lately...:-).  In previous years, heavy sweaters like this could only be worn in the confines of the home for scrubbing and cleaning and doing other house chores but fast forward to Fall 2014 and you'll find out that oversized sweaters are trending. So, dig into that closet and bring out the goodies. Don't you just love it when fashion just keeps rotating?

Sometimes, I think this continuous rotation of trends can encourage hoarding; a situation where we don't want to give or donate items that we do not need at the moment with the hope that the fashion would cycle down again. On the one hand, it helps us save money because we do not have to go shopping again for those trends that keep coming back but again, if we hold unto those items with the hope that we will need them again, we're actually hoarding!...:-). So, what do we do???

In situations, like this, I always research my bible because it is the blue print for everyday christian living and my bible tells me that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Acts 20: 35

I have shewed you all things, how that so laboring, ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

So, I'm glad that eighties and nineties trends are back and I'm glad that I do get to dress up my oversized sweaters this fall and I'm even more glad that my bible says it is better to give than to receive. Thanksgiving is around the corner, have you made a shopping or wish list yet? Are oversized sweaters on your list?

Le's get personal; It's Pajama time...

1

Hello Friends, yours sincerely is going to talk about a different kind of fashion today; sleepwear. A lot of times, we are stocking up on clothing items and accessories for outings and daily wear without paying much attention to our fashion when we are laying our heads on our beds to sleep. Eeemmm**clears throat,**I have been guilty of this too. I was organizing my closet over the weekend, trying to put away some summer pieces when I suddenly realized that it's been a while I bought a new sleepwear clothing. All my sleepwear were old and worn and after making a mental budget, I grabbed my ipad and quickly fixed the problem. Now, I'm waiting for my goodies in the mail...:-).  I saved a lot by taking advantage of the end of year sales currently going on in stores.

On another note, it reminded me of the bible scripture where the scribes and pharisees were accused of keeping the outside of the cup clean and inside filthy; Matthew 23: 25-26. In our lives, our insides need to be as clean and pure as our outside. The selections above are some of my favorite pieces. Also, pajamas are great gifts to give anytime to friends and loved ones.

All pictures were extracted from Victorias' secret.

Color me like a Pumpkin

So, it was my birthday on Friday, then it was Halloween. This is one holiday I do not celebrate even though it is on my birthday. I do not like the celebration of Ghosts and Spirits and Vampires and since I was not raised in this neck of the woods, you cannot blame me that much...:-). Just to refresh your memory because it's been a while I went this personal; I was born thirty-something years ago in a small city in Africa to a High Court Registrar Dad and a Nursing Practitioner Mum. (Dad is late now but everyone else is alive and well; thank God). We moved to the United States sixteen years ago and found a new home here and now I have started my own family too. Halloween is not a holiday back in Africa where I grew up although I got to know about it pretty much early because I grew up reading a lot of American novels and books. My family were (and are still) staunch Christians so, we did not see any need for the holiday but I'm not saying this to criticize anyone's beliefs or views. I'm just sharing a part of my own views and beliefs so you can understand why I do not talk about the holiday on the blog.

Jacket: thrifted
Tee: Loft
Skirt and peep-toe pumps: Victoriassecret (old)
Bag: Old

Anywho, that does not mean that we do not have fun on Halloween; I have celebrated my birthday so many times on this holiday and even though we do not dress up or trick or treat in my home, we still open our doors to any kid that shows up and we treat them to lots of candy. A lot of kids showed up as usual on Friday and we had fun with them. They had such interesting costumes. Also, my daughter in Kindergarten went on a school field trip on thursday and came home with this cute smiling face pumpkin and for the first time in my home, we had a pumpkin by the door on Halloween. Maybe, I'll dress up as an Angel next year...:-); definitely no witch or vampire costume for me...:-). And please, do not suggest the nurse or fairy outfits...lol

So, the cute little pumpkin inspired this outfit along with the fact that I suddenly remembered that I had this skirt in my closet. I love the skirt a lot but the only snag is that it is made of light fabric and does not provide much support in the hip area for the curvy ladies. The quality is however very good. I wore a different color of a more durable fabric here. This mustard color jacket was a perfect match for this skirt today and if I were a real life pumpkin, I would be a cute one...:-).

Faith and Hope and a Pink Blazer

I'm back with a post I saved on my computer for a few days  and in this outfit, there is a piece that means so much to me; the pink blazer which I thrifted for $5.99...:-).
I was invited by my blogger friend over at Simply Chic to participate in a breast cancer awareness pink moment post showcasing your favorite pink outfit or accessories and you can see the feature here. I was very excited to do the feature but when I looked in my closet, I could not locate my hot pink jacket which I wore at about the same time last year in this post here and I did not want to wear a pink dress or skirt so I decided to go thrifting to see if I could find another pink jacket

If you have been following my blog for a while now, you will know by now that I do thrift occasionally and most of my jackets are actually thrifted. Well, it did not take me long to find this and at $5.99, it was a good deal. The jacket came with an old fashioned gold toned round button which I replaced with this brown one. After dry cleaning, it was almost as good as new. The thing I love most about the blazer is its soft pink color and the length and the light wool fabric makes it very comfy. I only wished I had smiled more in these pictures but I was not feeling well and actually had a headache at the time. It made me reflect on what breast cancer patients actually go through; hospital visits, chemo treatments, hair loss...

Blazer: Thrifted
Tee: Loft
Jeans: Loft
Shoes: here
Bag & Sunnies: old

I am glad awareness is being made about this awful disease and I'm glad that I was able to contribute in a little way with my pink blazer. Much still needs to be done though; prayers and all. If Jesus Christ healed all those diseases when he was here and died to give us power over all things, there is hope for all. It only takes faith to start the process of a miracle. And I pray that our faith be straightened in Jesus name- AMEN. Have you ever worn pink to fight a good cause? It was Halloween yesterday; did you dress up in any costume?

Luke 17: 16

And the Lord said, if ye had faith as a grain of a mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
