5 Steps to geting an organized Closet

No matter what kind of closet you're planning, take the time to think ahead and really consider what you need to store and where you want to store it. Taking a hard look at what you have will help you understand the kind of storage you need.

Step One

Designate a staging area and empty your closet out. You can use your bed or a cleared-out corner of the room. This important first step requires you to remove everything: clothes, hangers, boxes, folded blankets or piles of old magazines.
Use a collapsible clothing rack to hang clothes so you can clearly see and sort exactly what you have. The rack is a nice addition for your laundry room once the closet project is over. Take your time with this process, maybe play some of your favorite music and ask a friend or family member to help if heavy items need to be moved.

Step Two

Organize items into specific categories and take inventory. You can place like items in cardboard boxes, plastic containers or in piles, and use labels to help keep track of each group of items. Some organizers suggest starting with "keep," "toss" and "donate" piles, while others prefer their clients to start with broad categories (clothes, shoes and linens) and then divide everything into smaller subcategories (sweaters, winter boots and sheets).
During this stage, take the time to group small items like batteries or toy soldiers together in bags or jars, so they don't end up "lost" among the boxes or piles of larger items.

Step Three

Eliminate items that don't belong in that particular closet. One of the big causes of clutter and disorganization in the home is items that belong in the kitchen or bedroom, are found hiding in closets all over the house. Over time, the temptation to stuff something like a box of appetizer plates in a bedroom closet or extra towels for the bathroom in the entry closet can cause you to make some bad storage decisions. This is the time to return out-of-place items to their rightful home. But try to stay focused on planning one closet at a time. You can turn your attention to other closets at a later date.

Step Four

Remove unwanted items. This might be the most difficult part of the closet planning process. It helps to establish some basic rules up front, like anything with holes or pairs of shoes or socks missing their partner must go. Ask yourself some questions:
  • Have I worn this shirt or skirt in the last year?
  • Does this jacket still fit?
  • Do I really need 12 baskets that look exactly the same?

The answer to many of the questions will likely be "no" and then you can decide if you want to donate items to charity, try selling items online, hold a garage sale or take unwanted items to a local consignment store.
If you don't want to sell your used goods, hold a swap meet with friends and neighbors who want to eliminate clutter from their home. Many times a beautiful sweater that looks snug on your daughter can be a perfect fit for the child down the street. Just avoid the tragic storage mistake of leaving the swap meet with items you don't need. Remember; Keep your eye on the prize.

Step Five

Clean the closet itself. While you might think an empty closet is "clean", now is the time to wipe down the closet walls and vacuum or mop the closet floor. Once items are removed, you will probably find stray clothing tags, store receipts or dust bunnies. If the walls need painting, choose a paint that is specifically formulated to be mold and mildew-resistant. If you find your closet walls have mildew or mold after you remove items, have a professional examine your walls and properly clean and paint them.

Happy New year everyone. A big thank-you to all my friends who left congratulatory messages on my last post. It's been a total new experience with the recent addition to the family and everyone in my family is still super excited. Today is the naming/dedication of my newborn and this ceremony involves taking the baby to church and having the pastor pray for him at the altar. There is going to be a big celebration afterwards so there has been a lot of planning and preparation towards this event.

I have picked a simple outfit for this event; a blue floral print high-low dress in an African fabric which I designed months ago and my seamstress brought it to life. The above polyvore selections were picked based on my outfit. I'm looking forward to enjoying myself with friends and family today and If I get the time to take pictures, I'll put them up later on the blog...:)

Thanks so much for stopping by and do enjoy the rest of the weekend.

My Christmas Gift, Goodbye to 2013 and Happy New Year!!

Yeah, this is my final thoughts for the blog for the year 2013. I had my little angel; baby boy ZION at 8:04 am Christmas morning. He came just three days shy of his due date but what perfect timing. The joy and happiness of having a baby on a special holiday as Christmas quickly replaced all the discomfort that was experienced during the process. I am so grateful and thankful to God for such a wonderful gift. Now, with two lovely sons and two lovely daughters, I feel like I am the most blessed and happiest mum in the world.

So, my family and I spent our Christmas at the hospital; my hubby and the other kids brought all the gifts from under the Christmas tree to my hospital room and we opened our gifts and had our Christmas dinner. It was the best Christmas ever and the beginning of many more to come. So, Good-bye 2013. It's been so much fun documenting this journey on the blog and sharing this experience. It's been a wonderful year and I thank everyone who stopped by to say hi and left comments, questions and good wishes. I thank you all for your concern, support and love. I do not know if I would have the time to continue blogging but hope I'll be able to drop in once in a while.

In conclusion, since this is a fashion blog; I'll say a little bit about fashion...:) I had the intention of doing a blog post titled "Unveiling" which was going to feature a make-up free face and a head without the wigs. So, I guess this is the post. I here reveal my make-up free face and my natural hair (dreads) that I have been grooming for months. With this look, I am signing off along with these special words;

Happy New Year!!!

Wishing you all the best for 2014!

A very Merry Christmas...

We have finally come to the end of the year and Christmas; my best holiday, is the icing on an already beautiful and sweetly baked cake. We are having a white Christmas in Minnesota with lots of snow on the ground and cold temperatures. I am having a quiet Christmas with my family and since hubby and I are on vacation from work, we have ample time to enjoy every moment of the season with the kids plus, some of my family members came from Missouri to visit for the holidays. I hope you all are having a wonderful time with your family too. This might be my last post for the year because my baby is due to arrive any time soon. Again, for me, this is the most wonderful time of the year and with this; I wish you a wonderful Christmas and a very prosperous new year.

Report Signature

Tee: Customink
Scarf: Target
Jacket: Thrifted
Jeans: Loft
Boots: Report Signature via Victoriassecret
Shoulder bag: Neighborhood Boutique

I had the opportunity earlier in the fall to put three of my favorite clothing items together  in an outfit; my beloved Customink tee shirt, my comfy paisley scarf from Target  and my new Report Signature flat  heeled riding boots. The weather right now is very suitable for a second spin because of the snow blanket and low temperatures. Currently, enjoying my Christmas vacation with my family and looking forward to the arrival of our little angel.

I hope you all are in the Christmas spirit and plan to spend valuable time with God, family and valuable friends this season. Christmas is a time of giving because it started with God giving his son to die for our redemption. He alone is the reason for the season. Enjoy your Christmas and New Year holidays and thanks a lot for stopping by.

Fall..Oh Fall

Plaid dress: T. J. Maxx (old)
Scarf, tights, bracelets: Target
Jacket: Fashion Bug (old)
Boots: DSW

I just know it; fall (Autumn) is my favorite time of the year.
The weather gets cold but cool enough to bear
Beautiful nice weather that is just cold enough to put on some layers and still look chic
or snuggle under the blankets with a nice cup of hot tea.

Now it's Winter and everything is just different
How I miss my beloved Fall; my favorite time of the year.
But am glad every day of the last fall was well spent
And these pictures are good evidence hence I posted them here

Last fall, I got some good exercise working in the yard
and enjoyed the sound of the rake "swissshing" the leaves
Now any exercise outside puts me continually on my  guard
And the most common sound is that of tires "shuzzzing" in the snowy streets

I thank God though that there is a season for everything
And I know one thing for certain
The seasons must all come and go
So that every living thing surely can grow

However,  I miss my fall-oh fall!
